Five nations contest the unique "Survival Sequence" team event at these Olympic Games, also known as "5-Team". It's a match that stretches the will of five fighters who must battle in 1 on 1 face-offs until a team is eliminated! At the 2012 Games, it was dominated by The Dream Team from USA, who took Gold away from the British Commonwealth nations competing. Fitting, then, that a random draw left USA watching from the sidelines as the other teams met for the first day of Heats!
2012 Silver Medalists showed why they're a hot chance this year by initiating Malaysia into the event with a devastating 5-2 walkover! However, it was the 2012 Bronze Medal team of Canada that proved to be the real excitement machine!
The atmosphere was tense as Great Britain faced off against Canada in the second match. The man called nif exploded out of the gates to give Britain an early 2-0 lead, slamming up against Jerrod in a clash that had Canada sweating. Liam quickly capitalized on Jerrod's fatigue, beginning a back and forth sequence. Politics obliterated Liam in record time and started roughing up AcidicWonder, but the Brit was able to hold on for the elimination. It was down to the reigning Undisputed Champion DECEPTION to endure three eliminations! Coming in hot, he had no trouble with AcidicWonder, but the pressure built as Ironize took the advantage with his entrance! DECEPTION was able to fight back, but the toll seemed too great for any fighter to come back from. Far from any ordinary fighter, the champ blasted through ShawnMichaels to earn Canada a spectacular 5-4 victory! Truly one of the immortal moments to come from these 2016 Olympic Games!
Team GB could've been ruined by the lead that slipped through their fingers, but they turned the unenviable draw of a follow-up match into a rallying point. Unbelievably, nif took four straight eliminations from Team Malaysia to secure a 5-1 domination! They then tested old rivals Australia, pushing former KFL Champion Statix out after three eliminations, to force Hall of Famer Oozaru to earn the win.
The first day of Heats then ended with another epic showdown: A face-off between Australia and Canada! The come-from-behind performance of Canada had captured everybody's imaginations and when KittyKat and BIGkev slammed into each other like two bulls the atmosphere was like the main event of UGP! They knock down, drag out battle eventually broke with Canada taking the 1-0 lead! Bronzie fought hard to even it up, but xtactics was hungry for an elimination. Statix brought the level up, batting around xtactics and Jerrod! Suddenly the tables were turned, and Politics & Statix were in a war! Canada had the momentary edge as Statix started to fade. His elimination was like the snapping of elastic as Oozaru charged right through the fatigued Politics! With things looking grim, the hero DECEPTION came out to chop down the Hall of Fame oak that was Oozaru! A feat that forced ElJobber into his first appearance - sudden death! With shades of the finish of DECEPTION's titanic charge through Tower of Power XV, ElJobber was able to shut the Undisputed Champion out! A victory that gave the Aussies a clean sweep from Heats Day 1!
The 5-Team Survival Sequence Heats will conclude Friday, August 12th right before the return of Friday Night Fights. Teams will finalize their Medal eligibility when Team USA gets involved in what's sure to be another exciting event!
