Weekly Rankings Recap - 9/10/2017

We're still a couple of weeks away, but Night of Champions VI is already starting to shape-up. I'm looking forward to seeing what DECEPTION can do, but I'm not sure anybody will be able to stop The_Purple_Bunny & Mimik as long as their alliance holds true! We should see plenty more entrants announced in the coming days and weeks. It's getting exciting!

The Duo Division feels very vibrant right now, even as we venture towards another irregular choice of contenders. What DaemonX & Shen_DuHBK lack in experience as a team, they make up for with fire and determination. Their win over rxvt & deadly on Friday was some kind of token gesture, but it's really about the tension of The Invasion, and their desire to beat CCShadow & Scott-Howell!

The champs have had their fair share of unusual contenders, but they've also proven they can go with the biggest names in the league. I would've loved to see The New Generation going for gold. They broke back into the Duo Top 10 this week with their victory on Friday. It seems like "Mad Dog" Onryo will use that win to finally reach for the Division 2 Championship, but nothing's certain - even if it seems like it is!

I really thought Mime was headed for the KFL Championship record books! What an amazing win for "Champion of Champions" Poasty, who took full advantage of the open challenge scenario! It's been a helluva year for Poasty, who just last month was fighting for the Undisputed Championship! I think this is a good level for him. The KFL title will help him build the next phase of his career!

Weekly Rankings Recap - 9/3/2017

Talk about a case of deja vu! This weekend's Grand Slam [Doubles] ended the same way as the 2017 Summer Grand Slam with DECEPTION in the Runners-Up position! The New Generation came up short in a great match against "The Pacific Connection" Oozaru & Banging! A top quality duo tournament all around, but a reversal of the result I thought we were going see!

The tournament win finally gets The Pacific Connection a deserved place in the Top 10 Duos, but it's created a difficult lie for the Duo Division Championship. I'm not sure this alone can justify another match with CCShadow & Scott-Howell so soon. I'm also not convinced The New Generation are positioned to step right into that spot. It's a real conundrum and it could mean the Duo Division titles skip this year's Night of Champions!

The Undisputed Championship picture isn't any more specific, but at least we know the parameters by which it will be decided! The annual Night of Champions Battle Royal is an interesting tradition and I'm glad it'll remain in tact, despite Genku's delusions of grandeur. As much as Genku may've overstepped the mark by declaring himself #1 contender at the 2017 Summer Grand Slam, I'm not totally convinced he needed to be kept out of the Battle Royal. I wouldn't be surprised if this only fuels the fire of his conspiratorial rants - and his hatred for Chairman Mick!

A lot to look forward to this month! I'm very intrigued to see if United: Mime can follow through with his goal to break the record for most consecutive KFL Championship defenses! He's been rock solid since winning at Ultimate Grand Prix. A great stalwart of the arena! That goes down later today, so be sure to keep your eyes out for MNG results!

Weekly Rankings Recap - 8/27/2017

You've gotta hand it to Genku! Winning the 2017 Summer Grand Slam is a great way to bounce back from a frustrating loss at All-Star Summer Showdown! He's already calling an Undisputed Championship, but with Supercard 98 already committed to the Night of Champions format, I'm not sure when he thinks that match is going to take place. As a former Undisputed Champion he'll be eligible for the Night of Champs Battle Royal, but knowing Genku, that won't be enough.

I was excited to see DECEPTION make the tournament final! It's been too easy to sleep on The Hitman during Damo's reign as Undisputed Champion, but this should wake everybody up! I'll be interested to see how he uses his Runner-Up status. Will he attempt to leverage it for The New Generation now that they're back together and looking very strong after All-Star Summer Showdown, or will he project ahead to Night of Champions and the solo gold?

The overall standard for this year's Summer Grand Slam was very impressive. I was surprised just how strong the final eight were. Not a lot of upsets by comparison to past years! Sad to see a couple of casualties in "Wild Pegasus" Zentile and J-Spit. Zentile in particular has made a name fighting on the edge, and it looks like he finally met his match - The Apex Predator TonyTheTiger!

Big things coming up as we put the Summer behind us and head into September! Stay tuned!

Weekly Rankings Recap - 8/20/2017

Was that the best All-Star Summer Showdown of all time? Last year's event set the bar very high, but Supercard 97 had a tremendous amount of depth! I reckon the UGP throne is safe, but a new peak may've been achieved for the Supercard of the Summer!

It was the first time since the addition of secondary titles that there were no championship changes at All-Star Summer Showdown. That could be seen as a negative, but I actually think it was the right result for the right time. The fairytale coronation of an up-and-comer is a tempting narrative, but this is a sport, and we increasingly see these mega-shows serve as proving grounds for the next dynasty that's arrived -- not the next one coming through.

Poasty put on an outstanding performance in the main event! In terms of success, I think he would've been much better served saving that Royal Roulette opportunity for some time in the middle of next year. Can't fault the timing of the match, though! When a guy you just beat is carrying the strap, how can you pass that up? He damn well nearly did it, too! CTR missed a similar opportunity back in 2014 and never quite got back, but there's no doubting Poasty will be champ some day! For now, Damo will be the "Chosen One" carrying the belt forward with an All-Star notch on his belt!

Speaking of CaTigeReptile, how about her massive win over Kron? September's Night of Champions might curb her chances to capitalize on the star-making win, but this could be the beginning of a make-good on the missed opportunity of late last year. Former champ VenoMark could be an immediate danger after his big Steel Cage Fight win over the former #1 Contender. I'll bet Genku and United: The_Purple_Bunny will want to use the stip to get back in the hunt, too!

In the Duos it was a big dynastic win for CCShadow & Scott-Howell on Sunday! They managed to be underdogs heading into the Spring Classic rematch with Ratt & NightHawk. Now they're pretty well cemented as the dominant force ruling the Duo Division! The Pacific Connection had another big win, but after their four match championship series, I think that ship's sailed. "The New Generation" DECEPTION & Onryo seem like the most logical challengers after the weekend.

I was impressed to see Shinnokxz follow-up his upset Div.2 Championship win with a strong first defense. "Wild Pegasus" Zentile has been very tough to get a read on. United: Mime continues to be a rock with the KFL Championship. I'm not sure who will shake it from him, but after winning the Summer Battle Royal, DArqueBishop could be a logical contender.

The prestigious 2017 Summer Grand Slam kicks off next week, bringing 128 fighters to the arena for a week of elimination competition! Most of the big names from All-Star Summer Showdown are expected to return to try to claim the coveted tournament crown! Remember: That means a week off for the Monday Night Games and Friday Night Fights.

Weekly Rankings Recap - 8/13/2017

The United lose their first game of VS United to the ICWW All-Stars on Monday, then produce only the third team in Great Arena history to bear Team Xtreme on Sunday! It was one helluva week with a whole lot happening, and we're just seven days away from All-Star Summer Showdown!

I thought Dead Or Alive X lacked some of the undercard punch you get with a full Supercard, but I'm happy with the way it blended the ICWW 15th Anniversary with a sense of moving forward. These weren't just nostalgic exhibition bouts. There were real stakes and competitors who've been active for the last year and a half. A lot to work with and I think it came together well.

I would've liked to see The Pacific Connection take Duo Division gold out of DOAX. Their matches with CCShadow & Scott-Howell have all been top shelf, but after four attempts, it's hard to see them going further. There just seems to be something about the champs Oozaru & Banging can't beat! It means the All-Star return of Ratt & NightHawk will be more than just a Spring Classic grudge match. The champs will be the underdogs for the first time in a while as they defend against the awesome, unpredictable might of Rattamania!

The next logical contenders seem to be "The New Generation" DECEPTION & Onryo, but it'll be interesting to see what Baraka_MK & MKMaster can do with their most high-profile match to date! It was nice to see Mark & Leroy bouncing back on the weekend after being squeezed between the New Gen rivals.

Pre-Show 97 sorted out the secondary title bouts for this Sunday. I thought G0LD was the lock for a Division 2 title match, but it looks like fighting on the edge has worked for "Wild Pegasus" Zentile! That high stakes style carried him through a memorable title series last year. He'll be an intriguing test for Shinnokxz in his first defense! Evil AlbertBeefcake will be a serious threat to the KFL title when he takes on United: Mime, too!

It's the final countdown to Supercard 97: All-Star Summer Showdown! Make sure you're here all week for the final developments. With so much going on in the Summer, there are still a lot of major players to fall into place! It's all about the Undisputed Championship main event: "The Champion of Champions" Poasty versus "The Chosen One" Damo -- but there is so much more! I can't wait!

Weekly Rankings Recap - 8/6/2017

The United were just way too strong for The Invasion pawns who played VS United this week! It was great to see Shoe rallying the troops! The_Purple_Bunny was conspicuous by absence, but rumor has it that he may be persuaded to make his return later today! Good thing, too! The ICWW All-Stars are sure to be a whole lot tougher than last week's cakewalk!

There really is a whole lot going on in The Great Arena right now! [Monday] will be another special presentation of VS United, with the aforementioned ICWW All-Stars getting us all warmed up for the ICWW 15th Anniversary celebration of Dead Or Alive X on Thursday!

The full DOAX card looks to be a strong blend of current events and nostalgic references to the days of ICWW. As an annual fixture of The Great Arena, it's always been good at incorporating the best grapplers of today. We'll definitely see that in matches like "Wild Pegasus" Zentile vs King Ken, and The Invasion vs The New Generation!

We've seen The Pacific Connection and CCShadow & Scott-Howell got at it three times in the past, and they've all just about being main event caliber matches. After their detour through solo titles at Supercard 96: Royal Roulette, I'm eager to see if Oozaru & Banging can finally slay their dragon and bring the titles home for the ICWW anniversary. It would make one helluva rematch at All-Star Summer Showdown!

Make sure you keep your eyes peeled throughout the week for more Supercard announcements. We just got a very unique marquee match-up between Kron and CaTigeReptile! Friday Night Fights will be the night after DOAX as normal, with Pre-Show 97: Summerfest this Sunady, as well! So do not miss out on that! All roads lead to the Supercard of the Summer. I can't wait!

Weekly Rankings Recap - 7/30/2017

A triumphant return for Shoe this week! I dare say The United could definitely use a centering influence right now, and that's what he's back to provide! I get a real kick out of the VS United format. It'd be a real shocker for The Invasion pawns to be the first group to beat them, but the preview paints a pretty compelling picture for a possible upset!

Speaking of upsets, I really admire the tenacity Poasty is showing with his challenge for next month's All-Star Summer Showdown. Every feeling in my bones tells me it's just too early for Poasty to be going for the big prize, but I am 100% buying in to the story of the rematch. The simple fact is: Poasty has beaten Damo before, and there's no reason he can't do it again. The way he handled Genku during this week's Friday Night Fights certainly showed that! The Champion of Champions versus The Chosen One. That's a marquee I can't wait to see!

Genku is really skidding all over the map. Some of his recent bad luck is obviously self-inflicted, but I've been very surprised to see him losing where it counts: in matches. I thought he was a little hard done by missing out on Royal Roulette, but those twists of the screw are where drama comes from. I don't think he'll get a lot of love trying to call out Mick for a fight, but after the way things have been going, the challenge was inevitable. Dead Or Alive X would be the place to do it, with most of Mick's matches coming from ICWW. No word from The Chairman yet. I suppose stranger things have happened.

I noticed some impressive wins this Friday for Benjamin, J-Spit, and Miller. I think it's worth keeping an eye on those guys. I was also interested to see Killswitch & jack4813 team-up to take on rxvt & deadly. rxvt's return at Pre-Show 96 didn't get a lot of fanfare, but that's a valuable team to have together again. Even if it meant more problems for Killswitch over the past few weeks.

Don't miss VS United later today as we say goodbye to July, and hello to a big month of action in The Great Arena! August is when the Summer Season really kicks into gear! August 10 for the 15th Anniversary ICWW special Dead Or Alive X, August 20th for All-Star Summer Showdown, and then the wrap-up with the 2017 Summer Grand Slam. It's gonna be huge!

Weekly Rankings Recap - 7/23/2017

I really thought Poasty was heading to Royal Roulette for experience. I never imagined he'd walk out with a title opportunity! The Royal Roulette event is always an exciting one, and there were a lot of unusual kinks in this year's undercard to keep things very interesting! No title changes, but a whole lot of developments that should bring interesting repercussions throughout August!

The_Purple_Bunny, TonyTheTiger, LordSkarlet, and Loopster really maximized their time in the Royal Roulette match. TPB will probably have a particularly tough time swallowing the near-miss, but the potential to slingshot into this back-half of the year should be strong. I also saw good signs of promise in CaTigeReptile and Ken, even though they didn't get eliminations on the board. I was also very surprised to see Marz making a play for Royal Roulette!

In my opinion, Poasty still shouldn't be rushing to fight beyond himself. He may have achieved the biggest win of his career, but the Royal Roulette title opportunity means he has plenty of time to get more seasoning before he cashes-in. A good eight to ten months could really get him ready to be the "Champion of Champions" some are already claiming him to be.

The return of DECEPTION & Onryo as a fighting combination lived up to the hype, but I'm just as impressed with Baraka_MK & MKMaster. Their Supercard 96 win over The Brexiteers has put them into the Duo Division Top 10, and they clearly have a big future! Of course, it goes without saying that Jammer2Omega & Porygonix are looking ready to make a title challenge, as well.

The return of AlbertBeefcake and Shen_DuHBK could have implications for the Duo Division as well, if their affiliation with The Invasion continues. Those who remember Albert from the ICWW days will be even more stunned to see him walk a dark path with The Invasion. It seems DaemonX has found a way to put a hold over The Big Beefer, much the same way he did Banging. It should be interesting to see what that means for next month's 15th Anniversary event: Dead Or Alive X!

A whole lot to digest as we gear up for the big Summer Season push towards DOA and All-Star Summer Showdown! Make sure you're watching for developments that should start rolling in!

Weekly Rankings Recap - 7/16/2017

A lot of lateral movement this week in The Great Arena! Pre-Show 96: Heat Up Scramble alone gave us five confirmed Royal Roulette competitors, a new Division 2 Champion, and the return of an injured fighter that restores a very promising Duo Division tandem! The net result is a very organic, compelling line-up for Supercard 96 that might otherwise look completely bizarre on paper.

I was completely unprepared for Poasty to lose the Division 2 Championship, even though he was perfectly poised to do so. Shinnokxz is a pretty good natured guy with a strong presence around the arena. He should be a good champion, and it seems like it's time for Poasty to move on from the Div. 2 ranks. He's just passed the unofficial 5000gs threshold, and should rebound well if he can fight into the later stages of the Royal Roulette match. I see a KFL title run for the "Champion of Champions".

Jerrod & SubMan799 definitively proved they're the real deal with a big win during this week's Friday Night Fights. With their past as Duo Division competitors, I maintain that it'll be very foolish to under estimate their chances against the champs. They're a big part of the weird chemistry of the Royal Roulette card, but it should produce interesting results.

It feels as if there's a little bit of a dream match scenario to Jammer2Omega & Porygonix spinning off their loss to take on "The Invasion" Jason_Voorhees & edge. They did meet back during the Grand Prix Show, but both teams have had major developments throughout the year. It feels like a big time match between two serious contenders. Possible challengers for Jerrod & SubMan?

It would be remiss of me to overlook the way Genku repositioned himself this week. No sooner than rejoining The Invasion does he secure guaranteed qualification into Royal Roulette. He may not like The Invasion, but they like him, and right now it makes sense for both entities.

The_Purple_Bunny will be the other obvious hot prospect guaranteed to enter the Royal Roulette match. With VenoMark competing in a #1 Contender's match, is it possible we arrive at an Ultimate Grand Prix VII main event rematch for All-Star Summer Showdown? Wouldn't that be interesting? We'll find out this Sunday when Supercard 96: Royal Roulette emanates from The Great Arena. Be here for the full results and rankings recap update!

Weekly Rankings Recap - 7/9/2017

The Duo Division continues to reshape itself in a lot of interesting ways. With both members of The Pacific Connection now targeting solo titles at Supercard 96: Royal Roulette, the door to the Duo Division Championship is really opening up!

Jerrod & SubMan799 may just be the pair to take advantage of the lay of the land. Their victory over "The Invasion" Jason_Voorhees & edge during this week's Friday Night Fights was exactly the kind of credibility builder they needed to be more than a couple of big noting hotheads. It would be foolish to under estimate their ability, they both have a strong pedigree as part of combinations from the very first years of the Duo Division!

Speaking of throwbacks: "The New Generation" DECEPTION & Onryo will completely change the game if they stick it out beyond their freshly announced match with Mark & Leroy! With the raw power 2-time Undisputed Champion DECEPTION brings to the team, they should be able to do what Baraka_MK & MKMaster couldn't. I'm just not sure DECEPTION is getting as much out of the arrangement as Onryo! In some ways, DECEPTION has found himself where I was convinced Damo would be, at the end of last year.

I'm very much looking forward to The Pacific Connection exhibition later today. Make sure you don't miss the Monday Night Games! I see a lot of bad blood boiling over from last week's American Dream Elimination Battle Royal! It should be a real treat! We're also due an announcement about this weekend's Pre-Show 96, scheduled to take place Sunday, July 16th!

Weekly Rankings Recap - 7/2/2017

The Beatles once sang "you say goodbye and I say hello". That's what happened during this week's Friday Night Fights as Jerrod and SubMan799 came together as a new team, sending Rhyno to the injured list! Who knew he'd be joining his partner so soon after Grayback suffered the same fate?

I don't know what the elimination means for The Invasion, but I'm excited to see where Jerrod & SubMan799 go. Both have long pedigrees in the Duo Division, despite never attaining the level of success of more enduring teams. They should be perceived as a real threat to the Duo Division Champions!

The spotlight on Poasty really drives home his value as blue chip stock. I think it's very premature to start talking Undisputed Championship, but his confirmed entry into the Royal Roulette match should be a good chance to get some valuable experience and exposure to the bigger names. It's clear he's getting ready to advance from the Division 2 Championship. I'd still like to see a few more title defenses from "The Champion of Champions" before his run is done, though.

We'll have a new KFL Championship #1 Contender later today. The Monday Night Games will host thirty fighters for an elimination format "American Dream Battle Royal". Mime has had an iron grip on the title, leaving no clear challengers at this stage. This'll be a great opportunity not only to see who is ready to step up, but also get them ready for the challenge ahead!

Weekly Rankings Recap - 6/25/2017

Quite a serendipitous end to the 2017 Mid-Year Grand Slam tournament! It was a great event top to bottom, with some real twists and surprises. Nothing was bigger than Oozaru emerging as the winner of his first Grand Slam event! It was really the perfect timing for Oozaru with the 15th Anniversary of ICWW right around the corner, and opportunities for The Pacific Connection drying up a little.

Oozaru's partner Banging had a great tournament himself, going all the way to the Quarter Finals, where he was taken out by reigning KFL Champion and Grand Slam tournament gatekeeper: United: Mime. Mime fought in his third consecutive Grand Slam Semi Final! Unbelievable! He really could be a much bigger player if he had the desire. As it is, he's a fantastic KFL champion!

Speaking of champions, how about Poasty? The Division 2 Champion reminded everyone why he's one of the hottest blue chip stocks when he beat reigning Undisputed Champion Damo in an amazing clash of champions in Round 2!

Damo's loss will no doubt be of great interest to Mid-Year Grand Slam Runner-Up VenoMark, whose hunger for the championship just will not die. I've got to think he'll factor in to next month's Royal Roulette picture, it's just a question of where. It might be too soon to see Veno and Damo go at it for the title again, but VenoMark is also arguably in too strong a position to gamble it away on a thirty man Battle Royal match.

The regular weekly action resumes this week with tonight's return of Monday Night Games. I'll be expecting plenty of fall-out from the tournament as things heat up for the Summer season!

Weekly Rankings Recap - 6/18/2017

Supercard 95: Tower of Power XIX was a welcome return to the traditional tropes of the format. I really enjoyed seeing fewer matches, and a much stronger Tower than the chaos of XVIII! It was to see The Challenger 7 reach the peak [of 18], but fewer matches enhanced the stakes of the entire event. That's what this return to the main chase needed.

"The Chosen One" Damo is once again our Undisputed Champion. I have mixed feelings about the title picture's instability, but I cannot fault any of the players involved. Damo and ElJobber seem to have incredible chemistry each time they fight. In isolation, it was satisfying to see Damo get a win against ElJobber. Another notch of credibility to take him forward at the top level.

There's more to Tower of Power than just one match. There's usually one or two names elevated just by pure performance. VenoMark was clearly that fighter at Tower of Power XIX. The former champ had a tremendous showing with his four eliminations. This week's 2017 Mid-Year Grand Slam will inevitably have an influence on the title picture moving forward, but VenoMark is primed to remain a part of the conversation. His performance has earned him a seeded placement in the tournament, too.

Statix was the other big winner of the night. The #10 rung on The Tower can be a very unenviable place to be. Statix did well holding the line as gatekeeper to the upper tiers. He maximized his time with an impressive win against the reigning KFL Champion. I don't question Mime's position on the list of top contenders, but I'm always a little uneasy seeing a secondary champion put into a position to lose. This was a special circumstance, and I think it worked. I'd be very interested to see Statix take a shot at the title, but that would mean diverting his attention from The Invasion. It may not be the right time.

The timing was clearly right for TonyTheTiger. What a knack he has for coming out of nowhere to get back amongst the action! His fights with Genku and DECEPTION were fitting and squeezed more juice out of unexpected rivalries. An embarrassing night for Genku, who keeps over playing his hand and talking himself into difficult lies.

The 2017 Mid-Year Grand Slam is coming up. I always look forward to the major tournaments and this one's going to have a real distinct flavor. It's arguably the first time we'll see the draw loaded to the gills! The top seeds are now confirmed as: #1 Damo, #2 ElJobbver, #3 VenoMark and #4 DECEPTION. A lot of pedigree spread across the bracket. It should be a good week!

Weekly Rankings Recap - 6/11/2017

I'm really impressed with TonyTheTiger lately. This week's win against Genku is just another reminder that The Predator is always lurking in in the periphery. I'm very interested to see how he will perform this weekend at Supercard 95: Tower of Power XIX. I'm really looking forward to seeing the Undisputed Championship be the focus, and I've got to believe TonyTheTiger's chances are as good as any of the unrevealed Tower of Power fighters!

I'm wondering what the end game for Genku is right now. The antagonism he's shown toward his allies in The Invasion has a curious allure, but fighters the caliber of Jason_Voorhees & edge are only going to put up with so much, for so long. They let their fighting speak for them this week during Friday Night Fights. I'm not sure if Genku is listening.

I'm liking Oozaru & Banging as members of The Challenger 7 this weekend. They've had a white hot couple of months in the Duo Division, but they hit the wall in terms of the Championship. Tower of Power is a well timed detour for these accomplished solo fighters. It mustn't be forgotten that both are accomplished individual competitors. Oozaru held the coveted ICWW World Championship, and Banging is himself a former ICWW Heavyweight Champion and 2-time KFL Champion.

MKMaster is having one of the most impressive rookie years in recent memory. There's clearly a natural tension between he and "Mad Dog" Onryo. We saw that at Supercard 93 and this weekend at Pre-Show 95, but isn't The New Generation big enough for both of them? With foahchon they clearly made a formidable five playing VS United this week! After the blow-up between Mimik and The_Purple_Bunny, The New Gen could be more stable than The United!

Don't forget Monday Night Invasion and Friday Night Fights will be on hiatus next week while the 2017 Mid-Year Grand Slam tournament gets under way! 128-fighters duking it out for a full week of non-stop elimination competition! Opportunity beckons and everyone is going to want to win this prestigious event! Round 1 begins Monday, June 19th the day after Supercard 95: Tower of Power XIX! Make sure you're here for all the action!

Weekly Rankings Recap - 6/4/2017

Another great card at Supercard 94: Red Reign. The league is running a heavy schedule, and it's achieving a whole lot in a short space of time! The pace and unpredictability is starting to remind me of the league's first year. The turnover of Undisputed Champions is very reminiscent of year one. By June there were five title changes, and four title holders in 2011. 2017 is the only year to replicate that so far, but could still reach the high of six title changes, established in 2012.

I'm interested to see where ElJobber can go with the Undisputed Championship. Despite his tenure and status, he's never had a definitive run. I was rooting for Damo and was pleased to see him fight a very competitive match. He still looks very viable as a challenger after fighting strong.

The_Purple_Bunny has a major case for contention after his +29 impact win over CaTigeReptile! I did not expect CTR to be put away so decisively. I really believe she's overdue another shot at the big one, but the timing has to be right. A similar story for "Red Nightmare" LordSkarlet, who may've walked out of the Steel Cage victorious on Sunday -- but he took more damage than the guy he beat! That's the damndest thing I've ever seen!

After the cage at The Spring Classic, and the MAX Damage he took at Supercard 93, I really think LordSkarlet needs to take a solid month off for recovery. That isn't what The Red Reign needs right now, but the price of continuing could cost LordSkarlet dearly! Is continuing their rivalry with The United really worth that? I'm not so sure. I think it's nearing the end of its course.

I thought Genku and The Invasion were gearing up to be the next big force on the scene, but I'm starting to have my doubts. Not because they got beat up during this week's Friday Night Fights, but because Genku is already turning on his best men. I sometimes think if Genku was lost in the desert, he'd turn down water! Recruiting back-up was a pretty smart choice. Lets see if he sticks the landing.

CCShadow & Scott-Howell really stuck the landing in their Duo Division Championship defense against The Pacific Connection! It looks like Oozaru & Banging may have spent their last chip on that one. I was rooting for them, but the new boys are just too good! I'd love to see these teams reconvene somewhere down the line, but for now, I'm keen to see who can give both teams a run for their money. I've gotta think Jason_Voorhees & edge will be gunning for one of them!

Weekly Rankings Recap - 5/28/2017

Once again Genku has been given a big ball to run with. I hope he will have the temperament to see this as a positive and ride it through to its conclusion. This week's Friday Night Fights could go down as a pivotal moment in arena history. I really liked the intensity of the stand-off, and the potential it presents moving forward. The Invasion keeps evolving as a concept. In its current streamlined form I think Genku's takeover should prove mutually beneficial.

I already see Jason_Voorhees & edge as big winners in The Invasion's change-up. Repositioning CCShadow & Scott-Howell as rivals was a natural way of extending The Invasion's role as one of the anchoring teams. JV & edge didn't win gold at Pre-Show 94: Blood Gold, but it was a great first attempt. I look forward to their story developing more before they get their next shot.

I'm very much looking forward to The Pacific Connection's next shot at the champs at Supercard 94: Red Reign! Their previous title bouts on May 5th and Pre-Show 93 were main event caliber competitions! I'm hoping to see them do it against this weekend. For their sake, a title change might be nice, but CCShadow & Scott-Howell are really having their moment. It won't be easy.

The announcement of ElJobber's imminent return at Supercard 94 will clearly ruffle a few feathers. I can't think of any better challenger for the Undisputed Championship at this time. It will have been two months since he went to war in an Iron Man Death Match at Ultimate Grand Prix VII, coming off of a very strong start to the year. He should be a very strong challenger and a great scalp if Damo can keep his momentum going!

"The Hitman" DECEPTION may be the big loser in Damo's title win. He felt poised for something much bigger after defeating Kron at UGP! I see him as a potential challenger down the line, possibly in July, but his loss to TonyTheTiger at Pre-Show 94 was very ill timed.

Big Steel Cage Fight this weekend! LordSkarlet is fighting on the edge, but with his reputation, it might just pay-off. Also very keen to see what Shinnokxz can do when he takes on Poasty! Be here for all the action and build up to this Sunday, June 4th for Supercard 94: Red Reign!

Weekly Rankings Recap - 5/21/2017

A heckuva show this weekend at Supercard 93: The Chosen! VenoMark/Damo II had a big fight feel that didn't disappoint. I really enjoyed the story of the rematch, and the belief that either man could win. I personally went in believing VenoMark would reclaim gold. Ironic given all the talk about under estimating Damo. It seems he really could be "The Chose One" after all!

I wasn't sure about the Duo Division Champions taking the Supercard off, but it worked a treat. It meant the best of both worlds: Pre-Show 93 got a white hot title main event, and Supercard 93 got an excellent grudge match that leaves me with no doubt about The Pacific Connection and a third title bout! All of their matches with "The Invasion" CCShadow & Scott-Howell have been incredibly compelling. The champs keep escaping by the skin of their teeth! I'll be excited to see if they can keep it up!

With Jason_Voorhees & edge, those three Duos have really heated up the Division. I can see some teams coming on the horizon. Pairs like Jammer2Omega & Porygonix and perhaps "Brexiteers" Liam & nif look to be developing nicely. For now, I'm enjoying the focus on three competitive teams without the omnipresence of an all-conquering pair. Very refreshing.

I'm wondering if "American Nightmare" LordSkarlet jumped back into the arena too quickly after his Spring Classic Steel Cage match. It was great to see Artanix in a fight with a real fire. Stepping in as Interim Captain of The United feels like it could be an interesting change for Artanix. His MAX Damage win has me revisiting Artanix' individual title prospects. If Mime wasn't so dominant as KFL Champion, I might've viewed that as a great testing ground for Artanix. He could become a quality satellite contender for the top gold, though.

Good to see Poasty locked up another solid defense of the title. I thought Jerrod might provide a bigger obstacle, but no such trouble. This reign is shaping up to be Poasty's foundation stone. I'm really excited to see how far he can go. We won't have long to wait!

June 4th will see an accelerated schedule that brings Supercard 94 upon us quicker than usual! That means next weekend (May 28th) will be Pre-Show 94! I'm sure we can expect plenty of fallout from this week's match to inform the fasttrack build. Looking forward to it.

Weekly Rankings Recap - 5/14/2017

Another great Duo Division Championship main event at Pre-Show 93: Reconnecting...!

I've always loved the idea of seeing the tandem titles main event a Supercard, but the circumstances just never seem to be right. Nothing will be bigger this weekend than VenoMark/Damo II, but Pre-Show 93 was proof positive that it could happen with the right teams involved.

"The Invasion" CCShadow & Scott-Howell are really impressing me with their ability to adjust to and stay ahead of high-level challenges. I've expected The Pacific Connection to overwhelm them in both of their matches this month, but they've made me a believer. I don't think we've seen the last of Oozaru & Banging in the title picture, but it's starting to feel like CCShadow & Howell could be the latest benchmark team.

The 2017 Fighter For Europe tournament had its appeal this weekend, despite a depleted line-up. The added presence of greater British representation gave this year's event an interesting focal point, and a source of tension. It was a surprise to see "Brexiteer" Liam reach the final. A little less shocking that Chromatose claimed his third Fighter For Europe crown, appearing in his fifth consecutive final.

There are arguments to be made about Chromatose's dominance of the European event, but when its all said and done, I always appreciate the thrill of wondering who might rise to the challenge. Dez-Burnett nearly took Chromatose out early. Zentile was a wildcard, fighting on the edge. It's never easy to predict how well Nephrite will perform now that his conditioning is less regular.

The Division 2 Championship title shot Fighter For Europe winners receive may need to be looked at. I wasn't disappointed to see Poasty secure a confident win at Pre-Show 93, though. This is the one that needs to stick. I'd like to see Poasty rack up defenses into the Summer to really establish a good run. Jerrod won't make it easy. That match and plenty more coming this Sunday at Supercard 93: The Chosen. It should be a great event! Stay tuned for more updates throughout the week.

Weekly Rankings Recap - 5/7/2017

The only thing more surprising than The Pacific Connection issuing a Duo Division Championship challenge this week was that they lost! Oozaru & Banging have been on fire the last month, nd it really made a lot of sense for them to try to get the jump on CCShadow & Scott-Howell coming right out of The Spring Classic! It didn't get them gold, but the match was a UGP-caliber main event that demands a repeat! Good thing they'll be doing it again Sunday, at Pre-Show 93: Reconnecting!

Both teams have a long lineage and a lot of reasons to want to be Duo Division Champions!

Much has been made of CCShadow & Scott-Howell's long hard road to gold, with this being only their second Duo Division Championship reign! For a team so synonymous with The Great Arena it's a surprising fact, even if it should be remembered they had a short-lived dual KFL title reign back in October, 2013. I'd like to see them become the new standard bearers for the Duo Division, but it's very hard to refuse the awesome reunion of Oozaru & Banging!

The Pacific Connection go way back to the ICWW days, where they were legendary rivals to Hall of Fame Duo Division dominators: "Team Xtreme" Marz & Violent`J! The Connection won the ICWW Tag Team Championships on two occasions, at Breaking Point and Highway To Hell, in 2003. They also had a brief, but important stint as Duo Division Champions back in 2012, when they were part of the "Silent Invasion" of ICWW Immortals! The sometimes forgotten reign came at Royal Roulette.

This week's match set a very high standard! It'll be interesting to see if experiences helps them find a higher ceiling at Pre-Show 93! Right now, they're too close to call!

Weekly Rankings Recap - 4/30/2017

Just like that: everything we thought we knew gets turned on its head! This year's Spring Classic was a transformative carnival for many, with no bigger change coming than "The Chosen One" Damo becoming the new Undisputed Champion!

Six months ago I honestly thought Damo's time as a major singles challenger was finished. That All-Star Summer Showdown cage match was hard to watch, and when he limped into Survivor Sequence to get destroyed by Kron, it seemed like there was no way back! I really thought he'd be better off moving back to the Duo Division. Given their history, I still didn't rate him as a threat to VenoMark even after his Pre-Show 92 #1 Contender's win! It just goes to show that anything can happen in The Great Arena and it's only over when you stop fighting!

So many great results throughout the Spring Classic card. CCShadow & Scott-Howell are another overdue success story, winning the Duo Division Championship for just the second time! Joining The Invasion may be controversial, but it seems to have really refreshed them! It doesn't get much better than beating Ratt & NightHawk the same month they dethroned Team Xtreme! If I was a betting man, I'd predict The Pacific Connection make a run for the gold some time soon, but a rematch still has potential.

It was almost a foregone conclusion that Poasty would reclaim his Division 2 Championship from the upstart MKMaster. Take nothing away from MKM. He's made a mark on The Great Arena in ways I never expected. Hopefully this third reign will be Poasty's longest. I'd like to see him secure a strong run as champ before moving on to bigger and better things. G0LD, "Mad Dog" Onryo and SubScorpTile seem to be circling the Div.2 title. May means we'll also have a European Contender in the coming weeks thanks to the annual Fighter For Europe tournament!

Sadly we have to acknowledge the sidelining of hydraslash. I knew the conflicts of the last couple of years had taken their toll, but I didn't think he was as badly banged up as he clearly was. hydraslash was a shock casualty last Monday during the second edition of VS United. He left The Fallen a man short for their Survival Sequence, resulting in a Steel Cage Fight and Trios bout on Sunday.
