Breaking News: Mr. Daruma Does it Again!

It was a blitz that saw a confounding three Daruma 7 victories recorded in the span of a week, in August 2011. On the 22nd, history was made first by m0s, only to be shockingly repeated on the 26th by Genku, and yet again by m0s, on the 27th. This flurry gave new hope to the arcade hopefuls who would eye a place in The Banzuke list, but in the months that followed, none would repeat the success of that single magical week -- until now.

After eight months without a single winner; "Mr. Daruma" m0s has once again shown the way, performing the phenomenal feat of winning an unprecedented and unbelievable third Daruma 7 victory, in his 1106th attempt! This means m0s' average for victory is approximately 1 win every 368 tries -- impressive when you consider that the overall odds for victory are an estimated 1 in 1371! Something many players have never achieved, despite far exceeding that number of attempts!

    THE BANZUKE
  • 1. m0s August 22, 2011 (158th)
  • 2. Genku August 26, 2011 (172nd)
  • 3. m0s August 27, 2011 (281st)
  • 4. m0s April 17, 2012 (1106th)
Thus far, the arcade has hosted a total 13197 games of Daruma 7.
Will we see more winners accounting for an expected statistic of nine victorys? Or is the man called "Mr. Daruma" destined to this time hold the rare accolade without company?

What's certain is m0s' place in the annals of Great Arena history!
While the next seven days become an intriguing period for believers of history repeating, m0s can rest assured that no one will ever repeat the phenomenon of taking three of the first four Daruma 7 wins!

Breaking News: Another Name for the Banzuke?!

Not a hoax! Not a dream! Not an imaginary story!

The Great Arena was stunned just five days ago when m0s achieved the remarkable feat of completing all seven layers of Daruma 7 to become the games first champion in over five thousand games. Expectations were quickly dashed when, just yesterday, a second champion was crowned when Genku achieved victory!

If you doubted that m0s was worthy of the title of "Mr. Daruma," you spoke too soon! The first ever winner of the event managed to do it all again, scoring another victory with his 281st attempt at victory!

  • 1. m0s August 22, 2011 (158th)
  • 2. Genku August 26, 2011 (172nd)
  • 3. m0s August 27, 2011 (281st)

The shocking turn of events is such a departure from normal proceedings, the wins have left many speculating about the legitimacy of the wins. It has been estimated that there is a 1 in 1371 probability of successfully completing all seven layers of the Daruma 7, making the crowning of these recent champions statistically overdue based on the 5000+ games that have been played.

In fact, with the total number of games being tallied at 5452 upon Genku's win, a fourth champion seems statistically probable (after 5484 games). This, of course, does not mean a champion will be crowned tomorrow, or even in the next nine months. It will be very exciting waiting to see who and when it is, though.

Breaking News: Genku Joins The Banzuke!

It was regarded as the impossible obstacle, but after more than nine months of Daruma 7, the challenging game finally found its first champion on August 22nd, 2011!

With a reputation for difficulty, nobody could have anticipated that a second champion would be crowned just four days after the first! Never the less, Genku has achieved the remarkable feat of completing all seven layers without the Daruma doll falling, to become the second name written in the fabled Banzuke list of champions!

  • 1. m0s August 22, 2011 (158th)
  • 2. Genku August 26, 2011 (172nd)

Genku achieved his victory on his 172nd session, the 5452nd game in total. With a victory probability of 1 in 1371 plays, The Great Arena is technically playing catch-up, crowning overdue champions from a large number of play. It is still a very exciting and shocking addition to the legend of this beloved game!

Breaking News: m0s enters The Banzuke!

The Great Arena is best known for playing host to the fights and feuds of Pre-Show and Supercard combat. Competition in The Great Arena is much more diverse than that, with cognition and skill tested to the fullest extent by a complete arcade of challenges. One of those tests of skill is known as Daruma 7 -- an expanded version of the traditional five-layer Japanese Daruma Otoshi game.

In Daruma 7, challengers are required to confront a stack of seven layers, upon which sits perched the Daruma Doll of Bodhidarma. The challenger must hammer each layer of the stack out, starting at the bottom, without the Daruma falling from the top. It may sound simple, but it takes a rare confluence of chance and skill to successfully perform the feat.

So difficult is Daruma 7, many believed there may never be a champion. Yet, after 5124 attempts in total, Daruma 7 has indeed finally found a winner!

In just his 158th attempt, the warrior called m0s has done the impossible! Knocking each layer in succession, m0s successfully eliminated each of the seven layers without the Daruma Doll falling! His success is unparalleled, earning him the respect and adoration of his peers and fans alike!

Can this feat ever be replicated? Only time will tell!
For now, The Great Arena must stand in awe and appreciation of m0s! The first man to write his name in the fabled Banzuke list of Champions!

  • 1. m0s August 22, 2011 (158th)

The odds of winning Daruma 7 are an estimated 1 in 1371 tries.
