Tournament 11: Year Two - Round 3!

January 4, 2012 -- One year ago to the exact day, Tournament 1 pitted 114 men, women and NPCs against each other in a 128 slot bracket to begin a bold tradition in organized competition! One year on, the random draw pulls from over 160 league fighters to fill a bracket without byes, offering glory to only the best of them! Round 3 of Tournament 11: Year Two Begins offers a study in contrast between the then and now, revealing the devastating fluctuations of the modern fight, and the ever diverse roster of competitors vying for that top spot!

T11 Impact Players:
ElJobber +MAX (R1)
Genku +26 (R2)
TonyTheTiger +17 (R1)
The_Purple_Bunny +16 (R1)
Celeste +14 (R2)
Hokey +14 (R3)
Pink_Ranger +14 (R3)
Mimik +13 (R1)
Ghostdragon +4 (R1)
Ninja_Mime +4 (R1)
Porygonix +4 (R2)
Coming a long way from her First Round elimination in T1, Pink_Ranger featured in the Round 3 main event, impressive in her colourful clash with promising contender, The_Purple_Bunny! TPB got a surprise walk-through during Round 2, enjoying the bye created by a double elimination draw between DarkScythe and Twiztid_Ninja. The free pass may have been a step down the primrose path, leading to a cool down that left The_Purple_Bunny punished by a devastating +14 assault at the hands of Pink_Ranger! The shock elimination not only equals the biggest impact for the round, but also clears another heavy hitter from the bottom half of the tour, which already saw one of its seeds eliminated when ElJobber was taken out by Celeste, in Round 2. #3 seed, Hokey, was the other to secure a staggering +14 blow against his opponent, doing away with an upstart Bloodysinner.

Some things haven't changed a year after the seminal tournament event. The man who went on to win Tournament 1, The Great Genku, has continued his path toward 2012 success, enjoying a comfortable +9 win over enthusiastic mid-range target, Jax! As the reigning Undisputed Champion, Genku is enjoying a stay at the top for the first time, fulfilling the objective that eluded him for twelve months, despite being the winner of Tournament 1 -- the event that immediately preceeded the creation of the Championship. As #1 seed, Genku remains a hot favourite to do it all again, but he'll have plenty of competition along the way!

#2 seed and Tournament 10 winner, TonyTheTiger, secured his spot in the Round of Sixteen with another punishing win over MinnyBean. The +10 impact is just another sign of the claws TTT has developed and refined over the last year, taking him from one-time opportunist to confident contender and Honorary Master (as a result of his T10 win)! With two wins over Genku in the Tournament 10 Class Heats, it has to be said that TTT is #2 seed by formality alone!

Mimik made waves with another confident display, never in doubt in his +6 comprehensive win over VenoMark. With The_Purple_Bunny taken out of the running, it's Mimik who stands as most likely to threaten TonyTheTiger's domination over the bottom half. The spread looks much more even for the top, with Porygonix, DaMo, Jammer2Omega and Ghostdragon making bold strides through the field! foahchon too makes a case for himself, a semi-surprise victor over the ever threatening mojo of "Upset Machine" Chiefin! It bares mentioning that J2O -- famed face of The Next Phase movement -- has had an underrated tournament, moving well through the tournament to little review. He'll pose an interesting challenge to The Great Genku when they meet in the opening clash of Round 4!

Baraka_MK, Politics and SubMan799 make interesting submissions to the list, moving through a good draw into the Round of Sixteen. SubMan799 shows further signs of competitive maturation, spoiling the run of Celeste. AlexanderLuthorJr, something of a veteran in The Great Arena despite a degree of obscurity, also adds to an interesting mix in the latter stages of Tournament 11. It has to be said that CaTigeReptile is a disappointing exit, eliminated worthily by Politics.

Tournament 11: Round 3 Results:
1. The Great Genku [#1] d. Jax in a comprehensive +9 win.
2. Jammer2Omega d. KombatKid in a solid +3 showing.
3. Porygonix d. Scott-Howell in a close fought blockbuster!
4. DaMo d. DeathScepter in convincing fashion.
5. foahchon d. "The Upset Machine" Chiefin in a close fought match!
6. AlexanderLuthorJr d. Mark in a close match.
7. Ghostdragon d. Poasty in a solid +3 win.
8. "The Charmed" Hokey [#3] d. Bloodysinner in a +14 total demolition!
9. SubMan799 d. Celeste in a close fought match.
10. Baraka_MK d. Chromatose
11. Pink_Ranger d. The_Purple_Bunny in a shock +14 destruction!
12. Politics d. CaTigeReptile in a convincing +2 result.
13. Mimik d. VenoMark in a comprehensive +6 result.
14. muttonhead d. bfk in a hard fought minor upset.
15. CCShadow d. ThePredator151 in a close fought match.
16. Master TonyTheTiger [#2] d. MinnyBean in a +10 demolition!

In 2012 it all begins again! Tournament 11 passes the milestone of the original date, bringing with it an exciting line-up for the final stages of competition! The Round of Sixteen will battle it out to determine the top fighters of Year Two, setting the stage for an entire age of combat!

The Next Phase collides with the Undisputed Championship in the co-main event of Round 4! The Great Genku [#1] may be enjoying the most fruitful stint of his career, but that only makes him a better launching pad for the prototype for the next phase, Jammer2Omega! Contention will be on the mind of Ghostdragon when he enters into the second main event of the stage, hoping to benefit from the tradition of fortune that comes to those who defeat "The Charmed" Hokey [#3] under tournament conditions! The winners of each bout will take major favourite honors with them as they progress to the Quarter Final stages!

Also of interest: Mimik looks to stake his claim; Pink_Ranger faces Politics in her attempts to continue her momentum; Porygonix and DaMo collide in an intriguing match-up; and Master TonyTheTiger [#2] takes on the conspired attack of CCShadow!

Tournament 11: Round 4 Bracket:
1. The Great Genku [#1] versus Jammer2Omega
2. Porygonix versus DaMo
3. foahchon versus AlexanderLuthorJr
4. Ghostdragon versus "The Charmed" Hokey [#3]
5. SubMan799 versus Baraka_MK
6. Pink_Ranger versus Politics

8. CCShadow versus Master TonyTheTiger [#2]

Tournament 11: Year Two - Round 2!

January 3, 2012 -- The first major upset of 2012 would be a doozy as Round 2 of Tournament 11: Year Two Begins delievered new twists and turns! Competition remained generally tight throughout the field of sixty-four, whittling its way down from the mammoth 128 fighters that began in Round 1! With four carefully selected seeds surrounding a completely random draw, this is where it all begins again for The Great Arena, continuing in the grand tradition of Tournament 1!

The main event of Round 2 would be another titanic struggle as former-Undisputed Champion, Ninja_Mime, found himself the target of charging would-be contender and storied Duo Division arch-rival, Ghostdragon! Theirs would be a tournament defining battle against elimination, but no exit in R2 could be as game-changing or spectacular as the shock dismissal of #4 seed, ElJobber!

T11 Impact Players:
ElJobber +MAX (R1)
Genku +26 (R2)
TonyTheTiger +17 (R1)
The_Purple_Bunny +16 (R1)
Celeste +14 (R2)
Mimik +13 (R1)
Hokey +9 (R2)
Ghostdragon +4 (R1)
Ninja_Mime +4 (R1)
Porygonix +4 (R2)
Fresh off a trademark MAX Damage Boot Camp annihilation in the First Round -- "The Iron Menace" became the victim of his own medicine when Celeste defied all expectations, turning the tables in a +14 demolition of ElJobber! Seeded fourth, ElJobber was Tournament 10 runner-up and finished 2011 with a surging rise to #2 in the League Ranks. He joins major Round 1 exit, m0s, as well as absent tournament stalwarts Ratt, Kron and Crow, once again emphasising the diverse field of contenders competing for top honors in Year Two!

Sadly, Ninja_Mime would join that growing list of 2011 casualties, another early exit in the Round 2 main event. Ghostdragon finished 2011 with an upward moving League Rank of #10, and looks set to continue his rise after a convincing win over the December Champion. Neither man was in unbeatable form, but measured equally in their Round 1 +4 wins over low tier opponents, the separation is a good indicator of how things are shaping up for 2012, where the fight for the Undisputed Championship is expected to really heat up in the First Quarter.

Current Undisputed Champion and #1 seed, The Great Genku, looked nice and confident in his Second Round breezer. After tangling with m0s in a daunting First Round blockbuster, the Champ was text book in his round high +26 impact dispatch of ScottK. A step down from he [and Celeste] was Hokey, the Charmed #3 seed who enjoyed a comfortable +9 impact in his comprehensive win over Jerrod. Master TonyTheTiger [#2] shared the confidence, never in doubt in a +7 crunch of August All-Star, GreenLantern.

Tournament 11 said goodbye to Artanix, Ken and Casselman in other spotlit matches. They were the unceremonious victims of Scott-Howell, Baraka_MK and CaTigeReptile, respectively. Meanwhile, plenty of expected favourites found convincing paths to Round 3, converging on a finals series pregnant with possibility! Mimik remains a major threat nestled in obscurity, already positioned at the League's peak after a ceremonial Jan 1st smackdown of arch-nemesis, Praga "Pestilence" Conquette. If he can avoid an upset like his Tournament 8: Grand Slam loss to Vultyrex, a finals berth seems assured!

Jammer2Omega, Porygonix, DaMo, DeathScepter and Pink_Ranger posed threatening questions to the rest of the field in their Round 2 victories, while The_Purple_Bunny enjoyed the day off courtesy of a Round 1 double-elimination tie between DarkScythe and Twiztid_Ninja. TPB joins Mimik as one of the giants looming over Round 3, even though skipping ahead will cost him in the statistic-driven League Ranks. The bye sets up a major showdown between he and Pink_Ranger -- sure to be a colourful affair! ThePredator151 also moved straight to R3 courtesy of a draw, to less expecting fanfare.

The dark horse in the top ranks is a man well known to tournament fans, whose reputation is already being sparked in the build toward a possible clash with Genku! "Mad Dog" Onryo joined the list of surprise eliminations executed by The Upset Machine himself, Chiefin! Famous for fighting well above his weight, Chiefin's return to tournament success is the X-factor contenders like Mimik will want to be wary of. Sharing a bracket sector with Ghostdragon and Hokey, it may come down to a clash of fortunes in the later stages!

Tournament 11: Round 2 Results:
1. The Great Genku [#1] d. ScottK in a +26 total decimation!
2. Jax d. wife_smasher in convincing fashion.
3. Jammer2Omega d. Dolce in a solid +2 win.
4. KombatKid d. sucka in a close fight.
5. Scott-Howell d. Artanix
6. Porygonix d. marianokombat in a solid +4 victory.
7. DaMo d. Anub1s in a solid +2 win.
8. DeathScepter d. Mandijadeee in a close match!
9. "The Upset Machine" Chiefin d. "Mad Dog" Onryo in a close fought battle.
10. foahchon d. Kiddcade in a convincing +2 win.
11. Mark d. eMoRTal in a close match.
12. AlexanderLuthorJr d. Murdoink in a close fought match.
13. Poasty d. ThirtyThr33 in a close match.
14. Ghostdragon d. Ninja_Mime in a solid win!
15. Bloodysinner d. Reptile1112 by a narrow margin!
16. "The Charmed" Hokey [#3] d. Jerrod in a comprehensive +9 victory!
17. Celeste d. ElJobber [#4] in a shock +14 upset demolition!
18. SubMan799 d. DoObyScoO in a convincing +2 win.
19. Chromatose d. Benjamin in a convincing result.
20. Baraka_MK d. Ken by a narrow margin!
21. The_Purple_Bunny progressed to Round 3 via a bye.
22. Pink_Ranger d. vaiisekk in a solid +3 win!
23. Politics d. fraysol
24. CaTigeReptile d. Casselman in a close match.
25. Mimik d. RantKid in a solid +3 win!
26. VenoMark d. Swisher by a narrow margin.
27. muttonhead d. Learn in a close match.
28. bfk d. ZachAngel in a near draw!
29. CCShadow d. buragas in a close match.
30. ThePredator151 progressed to Round 3 via a bye.
31. MinnyBean d. JoelKatz in a close match.
32. Master TonyTheTiger [#2] d. GreenLantern in a comprehensive +7 victory!

Year Two is well underway and what an exciting beginning it has been! With ElJobber [#4] the first seeded exit, and the likes of "Mr. Daruma" m0s, DECEPTION, Artanix and Ken already eliminated, it's a wild and wonderful field full of possibilities!

The_Purple_Bunny returns to competition after his bye, making up one half of the Round 3 main event when he goes up against former-Duo Division Champion, Pink_Ranger! Fighting beneath the spectrum; successful Duo Division partners will go head-to-head in an intriguing R3 headliner as DaMo meets DeathScepter! PLUS -- The Great Genku [#1], Master TonyTheTiger [#2] and "The Charmed" Hokey [#3] return with targets on their seeded backs!

Also under the spotlight: Scott-Howell and Porygonix enter into an intriguing match-up; foahchon enters the twilight zone with "The Upset Machine" Chiefin; Politics and CaTigeReptile make up an interesting, evenly matched contest; and Celeste looks to follow her shock upset with a test against SubMan799!

Tournament 11: Round 3 Brackets:
1. The Great Genku [#1] versus Jax
2. Jammer2Omega versus KombatKid
3. Scott-Howell versus Porygonix
4. DaMo versus DeathScepter
5. "The Upset Machine" Chiefin versus foahchon

Tournament 11: Year Two - Round 1!

January 2, 2012 -- The order of the day would be close fought matches as Year Two of The Great Arena officially kicked off with an intense First Round of Tournament 11! Splitting the field of 128 would prove a mighty task as the great many battled tooth and nail to avoid becoming casualties of the first round of bifurcation! Eliminations would be a fact of the fight, but in a surprising but familiar twist, only sixty-two fighters would find their way into Round 2!

T11 Impact Players:
ElJobber +MAX (R1)
TonyTheTiger +17 (R1)
The_Purple_Bunny +16 (R1)
Mimik +13 (R1)
Hokey +7 (R1)
Ghostdragon +4 (R1)
Ninja_Mime +4 (R1)
DeathScepter +3 (R1)
Jammer2Omega +2 (R1)
Chiefin +2 (R1)
foahchon +2 (R1)
All eyes were on the reigning Undisputed Champion and his opponent as T11 proceedings opened with a blockbuster main event! The Great Genku and m0s have Daruma 7 stardom in common, but the arcade would be a distant thought as two of the leagues top stars tussled for tournament glory! Having provided bookends to 2011 with his opening win over Tournament 1 and year-end Championship victory; Genku would feel as much pressure as his upstart opponent, eager to begin Year Two with the same success. m0s -- voted 2011's Most Improved Fighter by a council of his peers -- obviously had similar designs, hoping to overcome the intimidation of a difficult draw worthy of its own Supercard, to execute a contender-making upset!

A career of hard knocks would ultimately deliver another hefty blow, m0s unable to perform at his peak in the high stakes clash! It would be a modest affair in terms of impact, but The Great Genku proved his worth in the First Round, overcoming this huge obstacle with the reserve of a Champion! The convincing, but by-the-numbers win, would provide a contrast to some of the heavyhitting impacts dealt by other tournament favourites!

ElJobber made the most noise of the First Round; the #4 seed continuing his "boot camp" with a trademark MAX Damage win over J-Spit! #2 seed and Tournament 10 winner, TonyTheTiger, launched a campaign of pain not far off the pace, a devastating +17 impact unleashed upon nikb! The_Purple_Bunny declared himself a solid prospect to win, hitting +16 against Skizelli!

DECEPTION was a disappointing exit from Round 1, second best in the headlining match waged between he and fellow fan-favourite, Ken. DECEPTION's Duo Division Championship partner, Onryo, had much better luck bundling his opponent out of the running, confident in his defeat of Zedox! Artanix, Scott-Howell, Murdoink, Baraka_MK, CCShadow, foahchon, SubMan799 and Mark were some of the other Duo Division stars moving comfortably into the Second Round.

The leagues only two fighters to have held both Undisputed and Duo Division Championship gold -- Hokey [#3] and Ninja_Mime -- both breezed through their First Round battles, securing 11 points of impact between them. "The Charmed" Hokey arrives seeded third due to his 2011 ending #1 league rank, reaping the benefits of the slightly safer of the two bracket halves, even though he finds himself once again at close proximity to his friend and partner. With enough success, Ninja_Mime and he could stage their fourth blockbuster encounter as soon as the Fourth Round!

History added extra fuel to the fire when Porygonix faced off against Team Agaper's exile, kororaa! Their soured relationship dulled kororaa's perceived disadvantage, resulting in a hard fought battle Porygonix just barely scraped through! Malaysia's vaiisekk had a similarly tough time of it, narrow victor over Mk_FrEaK in the years first Battle for the Bottom! Likewise, ZachAngel was a lucky victor, edging out Team Ops' latest debut, Clausner!

Also making their case for favoured odds: Mimik in a compelling +13 win over xtactics; Ghostdragon a convincing contender over Kiara85; DaMo and DeathScepter each making waves with good wins; "The Upset Machine" Chiefin back in the winner's seat; and Pink_Ranger still in touch with her glory days, successful over MINION in a solid result.

HYPE: Tournament 11 2012 Draw Revealed!

In the proud tradition of Tournament 1, 2012 begins again with the ultimate test of endurance! Champions come and go, but tournament victory is an accolade reserved for the elite few able to fight their way through an eager elimination field! The league has been reset at zero, making this the platform upon which an entire year will be decided! For some, it will be the beginning of a bold new year of success. For others, a dark chapter will force them to rise to new challenges!

The Great Genku, Master TonyTheTiger, Hokey and ElJobber take their privileged place at the four corners of this massive 128 fighter bracket. They will prove the ultimate test for a randomly drawn field, guarding each quarter as the current reigning Undisputed Champion, winner of Tournament 10: The Master Series, and top two 2011 league ranked fighters, respectively.

The random draw has already produced significant twists for 2012!
Despite recently returning from hiatus, a rejuvinated "Iron Man" Ratt will start the year on the sidelines, unable to contest his first ever tournament victory! The T8 runner-up will join a list of heavyhitting favourites missing from this year's tour opener, most prominent among them; three-time tournament winner and surprise turncoat, Crow; as well as his old tournament arch-rival, Kron, who returned to the realm beyond late in October after suffering the ultimate defeat against the evil overlord, Lord Mislukking.

The absence of these marquee names opens the door of opportunity to an exciting field of hot new contenders rising through the ranks! The conclusion of 2011 has seen many new names push through to the top contenders list, ushering in an intriguing and uniquely strong list of challengers in this 128 fighter field!

Opportunity beckons "Mr. Daruma" m0s when he takes on the challenge to upset all expectations in a headlining First Round match with #1 seed and reigning Undisputed Champion, The Great Genku! The randomly drawn competition promises to be just as fierce when Ken faces off against current Duo Division Champion, DECEPTION, in another intriguing and well matched clash! Old grudges will reignite when T10's Porygonix faces off against ally-turned-enemy, kororaa! CaTigReptile will also have all eyes when she locks up with plfx in an interesting match-up from the 2011 Next Phase!

Lurking just outside the spotlight, a strong list of would-be contenders. The_Purple_Bunny, Mimik, Jammer2Omega, DaMo, Scott-Howell and more will arrive in Round 1 with the odds well in their favour. Any one of these guys is a danger at the best of times, but with such an evenly spread field, it's anyones guess who will make it to the Grand Final! 128 of the 160+ ranked fighters will contest the brackets over sixty-four matches as Year Two Begins anew!
