About RPCheev

The storytelling component seen regularly on this blog is a major part of the "The Great Arena" experience, but it might interest you to know that the names and characters depicted all relate to real people and characters found on the Webmaster IRC network!

Staged events described on this blog lend a driving narrative dimension to the regular goings-on in #MicksDesk, the channel where users can engage in IRC combat each and every day of the week!

Registration is as simple as joining #MicksDesk and saying the magic word - "cheev." This will not only unlock a silly little achievement message, but also register your profile to prepare you for battle in The Great Arena!

Cheevs were the original #MicksDesk/#MortalKombat script, designed to poke fun at the developing short term reward systems popular in modern video games. Though primarily still a parody full of silly little affirmations and messages, cheevs play a vital role in the fighting game. First and foremost they will help build your gamerscore, which equates to experience points (XP) that determine your fundamental fighting strength. Equally important, cheevs are the method by which you maintain your power, which equates to health or hit points.

Players start with 100p, and if combat chips that number downward, cheevs have the ability to restore that number back to 100. To monitor your power and gamerscore, you will need to be in #MicksDesk and type !ID. This will also reveal many other stats relevant to your character profile, including your event-based League Rank, your fight Win-Loss-Draw record, and the number of Lives (1UP) you have to lose before you die. Trivia Score, Lantern Corps, and Daruma 7 refer to the many mini-games you can play in #MicksDesk, and have a small influence on your overall fighting ability.

Fighting is as simple as typing !fight <nick>, with <nick> representing your intended target. When joining the fighting ranks, your best option is to start with !fight NPC. This will allow you to combat a random field of Non-Playable Character minions who are design to challenge your powers, but will mostly just die and help you build your overall gamerscore!

As your gamerscore increases, you can then consider combatting fellow users, and Hero or Boss NPCs. To fight other users who are online in either #MicksDesk or #MortalKomabt, you simply need to type !fight -- if they are present in either channel, you will stage an attack. Keep in mind, many existing players have very high gamerscores, and could do some serious damage if you aren't ready to match them XP for XP! Fortunately, to protect new players, those powerful existing players [higher than 500 gamerscore] cannot attack you so long as your gamerscore is lower than 500, and their gamerscore is more 100+ XP higher.

When you are ready to fight fellow users, you have the opportunity to expand your power (HP) up to 200p by winning and draining their power. Power exchange also occurs when you combat Hero or Boss NPCs, who are typically far more powerful than Minions, and sometimes posses strange and dangerous extra abilities! Remember, this power exchange goes both ways, and if you lose your fight, you will lose power (health). Don't forget, if you dip below the safety of 100, you can earn some of that health back by typing cheev (while also adding a point to your fighting gamerscore!).
