Entering Night of Champions: Hokey

On one night in September every Undisputed Champion is given the opportunity to grab the brass ring and reclaim the glory they once held. This is Night of Champions - an event that gathers former title holders into one epic Elimination Contender Battle Royal where the winner advances to the main event to face the reigning Undisputed Champion!

In 2016, Night of Champions V will take place on the Sunday of September 25th. Kron declared his entry into the match over a month in advance at All-Star Summer Showdown. Just one week later, ElJobber made his intentions to enter the match known after winning the 2016 Summer Grand Slam. After falling short in his title shot at Supercard 83 - The Great Genku vowed to bring the title to The Invasion on September 5th.

Genku joined The Invasion to secure their services in keeping Royal Roulette winner Hokey away from the title match he ultimately lost. He will relive his paranoid fears now that Hokey is the next former champion to officially enter the Night of Champions Battle Royal!

For Hokey, it's a tactical no brainer. As the winner of Royal Roulette, he carries the right to challenge for any championship at any time of his choosing. Night of Champions therefore effectively becomes a double chance -- a bonus opportunity for the Summer Grand Slam Runner-Up, whose career in The Great Arena seems to be affording him every available opportunity!

It hasn't all been quite so easy for the fighter once known as "Charmed". Hokey was last Undisputed Champion in January, when he lost the belt in an unexpected turn of events at Supercard 74: Battle Royale. This night of disappointment for The United led them to seek outside guidance. The team's new management controversially fired him in April, sending him into a period of uncertainty that ended with The United's reformation in July, and his Royal Roulette win.

Hokey has been Undisputed Champion three times in his long and impressive career. Success came early, his first title win part of the Year One blitz of 2011 at November's Supercard 16: War Games. He lost the title the following month to his friend and rival Mime, as part of a legendary competitive series that culminated in the title switch at Supercard 17: Ninja_Mime/Hokey III.

After several years as a successful Duo Division Champion and member of The United, Hokey claimed his second Undisputed Championship in a surprising 2014 victory at the unique milestone Supercard 50: Tower of Power X! This was ended one month later when m0s earned his first reign at Supercard 51: Deception.

If Hokey can eliminate all the other former champions in the Night of Champions Battle Royal, he'll earn the right to face old arch-rival DECEPTION. Could Hokey make it fourth time the charm at Supercard 83: Night of Champions V? We'll find out Sunday - September 25th!
