Unprecedented performance from The Challenger 7 at Supercard 90: Tower of Power XVIII has thrown the rankings into massive upheaval this week! The event has drawn mixed reviews. It clearly lived up to the promise that The Tower of Power offers opportunity to any fighter able to take it -- but the vulnerability of The Tower has drawn concern and criticism for the depth of the division.
Sunday's event produced an unheard of 54 match event, which saw Duo Division Champions "Team Xtreme" Marz & Violent`J forced to defend the title twice! "The Invasion" DaemonX & Banging became the first individual or pair in history to ever run the gauntlet of The Tower of Power, reaching the champions from The Challenger 7!
The unexpected results came from unexpected teams! AlbertBeefcake & Shen_DuHBK only came together because of unusual circumstances, but turned that into a 9 match win streak. LordSkarlet & legoslayer10 and Sekktor & hydraslash were the definition of unexpected -- a partner swap that seems to indicate a reconciliation between The Fallen and their friends-turned-allies!
Though the Duo Division appeared gain new teams, it also lost one of the big ones! The Greek Crisis have been an intriguing fixture since early last year, but a fatal blow to proXade will force the team onto the sidelines. They're one of several teams now broken up by the Injured List. Terrible timing with the biggest event of the year less than a month away: Ultimate Grand Prix VII!
