Tournament Grand Slam - Day 5!

September 2, 2011 -- It was a scenario all too familiar to fighters in The Great Arena as Round 2 of Tournament 8: Grand Slam [Singles] kicked off as part of Day 5 of the fortnights proceedings. Sixteen top ranked fighters may have been selected as seeds to command over each randomly drawn bracket, but there was one fighter above all others staking his claim to the chagrin of would-be challengers to his Undisputed Championship.

Cr0w [#1] extended his streak to nineteen victories, delivering the biggest impact of the day with a +12 decimation of Dolce! Doing their best to retort was TonyTheTiger [#10] and Kron [#4], who each mustered an impressive +10 in their dismissal of Buster and Baraka_MK, respectively. The victory continues TonyTheTiger's T7 rampage as a newly asserted predator, while Kron's success presents the unavoidable prospect of a rekindling of his feud with Cr0w, possible in the Semi Final.

Porygonix [#14] endured and snuffed out the potential threat of "Upset Machine" Chiefin, steady in his +2 assertion. Ninja_Mime [#6] was able to do one better, a comprehensive +3 winner in his clash with Bronzie. The_Purple_Bunny [#9] lacked the flash of his counterparts, but was no less convincing in doing away with tournament debut, sucka, cool and unassuming in ways reminiscent of his eventual total victory in Tournament 7!

Supercard 11 forced CaTigeReptile into a do-or-die situation as far as her competitive stakes were concerned, and just as she did in Round 1, the feline femme fatale once again asserted herself exactly as needed! ShingoEX provided another solid win, setting up a true test in the form of Ninja_Mime!

Politics was a surprise exit, trumped by up-and-comer, GreenLantern, still riding high from a titanic three-way victory at Supercard 11! FunGuyInTheVan couldn't upset Casselman in a similarly close fight. For the ultimate close fight, Quirk and KombatKid had to take top honors in the Second Round, fighting to a complete standstill! This marks only the second draw The Great Arena has seen, the first coming Day 2 in a surprise draw between Bofh and MinnyBean!

foahchon followed the example of his successful partner, Artanix, while Genku [#8], DECEPTION [#15] and Khan took solid wins, as well.

As part of the two week extravaganza, September 4 will see the beginning of the co-running Tournament 9: Grand Slam [Doubles] -- wherein thirty-two Duo Division teams will do combat to simultaneously earn the glory of besting the field of their peers! Championships come and go, but the glory of winning an elimination tournament is forever!

Before the teams get in on the action, however, Day 6 plays host to the conclusion of the Second Round of the Tournament 8 solo field! Like the top, it's a bracket full of names, with the surviving seeds fighting their way toward each other in the ultimate crunch!

T7 Semi Finalist, Artanix, meets the #3 seed and reigning Duo Division Champion, Hokey, in a team-fuelled main event of Day 6!

Debuting with a lot of buzz, Blaze takes on a fighter with an impressive 5-1 rookie record, plfx! DeathScepter [#13] faces the deceptively strong Chromatose in a match we've seen before, sure to be another intriguing battle in the mix. AlexanderLuthorJr v NovaStarr also promises to have the potential for fireworks, particularly if NovaStarr's recent victorious turn can push her in the right direction!

"Mr. Daruma" m0s, the rising Ken, Mimik eliminator Vultyrex, SmokeRulz, and a more comfortably positioned Jammer2Omega will all also look to challenge the field of seeds! It's sure to be another big round of fights!
