August 31, 2011 -- Bracket three produced an interesting mix of the mundane and the stunning as Tournament 8: Grand Slam [Singles] progressed to day three of four First Round collections. In this second one hundred and twenty-eight fighter field, sixteen seeds chosen from the top league ranks sit at the top and bottom of each mini-bracket, supposedly providing predictable outcomes for the early rounds, but as The Great Arena has shown us so often in the past, nobody is above an upset!
The main event of Day 3 was without a doubt the blockbuster victory of Next Phase superstar, Jammer2Omega, who eliminated the first of the seeds in an impressive battle with #16 placed, Pink_Ranger! The pair were always destined for a memorable clash, incredibly well matched on paper! The win was exactly what J20 needed after his aspirations were interrupted by some tough bouts in recent Supercard competitions. It is a prime example of the harsh realities of a random draw, even with extensive seeding!
Business was much less taxing for tournament stalwart Hokey [#3], who set the pace on Day 3 with a relatively modest +5 impact over Randomini, when compared to the heavy blows of Day 1 and 2. "Mr. Daruma" m0s joined in, enjoying a +4 in another of the feature match-ups of the third bracket, winning out over nif! DaMo [#12] did himself proud with a strong win over SubMan799 in an intriguing random draw, while the recently unrelenting ElJobber was convincing against Celeste in a modest win.
Keeping Day 3 interesting were Artanix, Ghostdragon, Murdoink, Kairyu and NovaStarr, all successful in a solid field. Artanix has been flying high since Tournament 7, where he surpassed expectations to book himself a Semi Final berth. Could fortunes shine as bright in Tournament 8? There are plenty of fighters who'll do their best to stop him!

The final stage of the First Round promises to be a settled conclusion to opening proceedings. Seeds Ratt [#2], Toryn [#5], Mimik [#11] and DeathScepter [#13] all enter their R1 match-ups as strong favourites, while the feature fights of this section of Tournament 8: Grand Slam [Singles] suggest even more sobre odds!
Ken will be fighting to keep himself on the rise when he takes on Piccolo in a should-win situation; plfx joins the tournament ranks for the first time in a clash with dark horse percentage player, Stealth-Ninja; SlumDunk returns for another 'Battle of the Bottom' as he takes on one-better rank, Poasty to condemn the loser to remain bottom of the ranks; SmokeRulz tests his multi-tasking skills against the streamline assault of EasterBunny and Blaze debuts to take on relative newcomer, Zedox!
