August 29, 2011 -- It was an ominous open to proceedings as Tournament 8: Grand Slam [Singles] kicked off with the #1 seed, Cr0w, unleashing a +30 MAX damage against the hapless form of Menas! The reigning Undisputed Champion begins his campaign to win a second consecutive tournament, following on from his last appearance at Tournament 5!
While Cr0w [#1] extended his T5-post win streak to a staggering eighteen straight victories, the other seeds progressed with similar ease. TonyTheTiger [#10] kept his T7 narrative running with an aggressive, powerful performance, delivering a +14 impact on a debuting Jironobou. The result reflects TonyTheTiger's status as the most realistic threat to Cr0w's run, in the top bracket.
In the feature match of the round, DECEPTION [#15] endured against Duo Division rival, Scott-Howell, to eliminate one of the arena darlings in a comprehensive result. CaTigeReptile scored a much-needed win in another of the intriguing randomly drawn match-ups, earning a solid victory over Team Agaper's ZachAngel. NightHawk was a disappointing departure, while Shoe went down to a somewhat surprising +4 impact from Bronzie! Another +4 winner was Ninja_Mime [#6], decimating the always intriguing Shizuma.
This is the first time The Great Arena has played host to simultaneous tournaments, with the best of the best seeded in two massive, randomly drawn brackets! One hundred and twenty-eight fighters duke it out in Tournament 8: Grand Slam [Singles], while sixt-four fighters comprising thirty-two teams prepare themselves for Tournament 9: Grand Slam [Doubles], providing fights every day for two whole weeks!

"The Upset Machine" Chiefin takes on CCShadow in one of the intrigue matches, while Politics and xtactics present a closely pitted combination. Fresh from his recent return, Kron will look to avoid the embarassment of a shock loss to STEROLIZER in the first round. Baraka_MK will look for the same opportunity in Round 2, if he can beat Battle Royal upstart, muttonhead.
Day Two of competition will see a noteworthy number of debuts in The Great Arena: J-Spit, killswitch, sucka, flameshang, Sanitized and ErmackDaddy all lining up for the first time via random draw.
