Tournament Grand Slam - Day 6!

September 3, 2011 -- With a single thundering blow, the complexion of Tournament 8: Grand Slam [Singles] was turned on its ear! Day 6 and the Second Round of this one hundred and twenty-eight fighter bracket delivered a second MAX impact when ElJobber [7] absolutely demolished the challenge of MINION! We saw ElJobber develop a callous new competitive streak during the events of Tower of Power II, but the +30 confirms the legitimate possibility of an ElJobber/Cr0w final, setting up an intriguing gauntlet for the undefeated champ!

All the major players of the second half put in convincing performances, providing a gallery of high impact wins far beyond the previous stage! Ghostdragon rose the respectable challenge of Shadaloo, stamping his name in the Second Round with an impressive +8 decimation! He was tailed by an equally motivated Toryn [5], who did away with potential upstart, SmokeRulz, in a convincing +7 beatdown! The pair seem sure to progress to the Third Round with an air of confidence, but they certainly won't be alone!

Jammer2Omega continues to the lead the Next Phase charge, comfortable in his match against Mark. The comprehensive result included a +5 punishment to the lower ranked fighter, providing much lighter fare than his intense Round One upset against #16 seed, Pink_Ranger! Ken and m0s also provided spice in the random draw, progressing in their mutual campaign to upset the plans of the top the seeds!

As far as upsets go, Vultyrex confirmed the stunning First Round elimination of Mimik [#11] was just a fluke, going down to Battle of the Bottom winner, Poasty, in only his second career win. It was similar harsh times for Artanix, who was unable to continue the wave of success he enjoyed during Tournament 7, roadblocked by tournament stalwart and #3 seed, Hokey. Ratt [2], DaMo [12] and DeathScepter [13] were solid winners.

17. ElJobber [7] d. MINION in a +30 demolition!

The bredth of proceedings expands tomorrow as solo competition takes a break, delivering Tournament 9: Grand Slam [Doubles] to the end of the first week! Day 7 will play host to a entire bracket of thirty-two, with seven of the previously announced seeds lining up to do battle.

The pre-tournament story will be that of DigbyRigby, who had been scheduled to partner with kororaa as the late placed #8 seeds. As has so frequently been of his character, extra-Arena activity has forced he and his partners removal after a clash with "Mr. Daruma" himself, m0s, sidelined the often out-of-action fighter, indefinitely. One fighters demise is anothers gain, providing the hodgepodge tandem of Khan & Reiko with a bye direct to the Second Round -- luck of the random draw!

Reigning Duo Division Champions, Hokey & Ninja_Mime, will be odds on favourites, with current #1 contenders to the titles (DECEPTION & Onryo) placed at the opposite end of the field. There are sure to be plenty of blockbuster encounters between as doubles -- new and old -- try their hand at just the second Duo Division tournament opportunity!

Feature fights include: Liam & nif taking on the unknown combination of Blaze & The_Purple_Bunny -- two of the fighters looking strong in the Singles version of the tournament! m0s will also introduce Nemesis316 to The Great Arena when they team-up to take on Tyrant-Cenobite & queve in a clash of personalities! All the major players will be on display -- PLUS! For one tournament only: DArqueBishop enters The Great Arena to team with CCShadow in his only performance in organized competition!
