Pre-Show 16: The Declaration

November 13, 2011 -- The Union of The Human League: An institution of mutual interest created in a time of great need. A protectorate formed for the people displaced by the incursion of Lord Mislukking and his Four Barons -- an act of strength in numbers. It was The Union that guided a reality of peace through The Great Arena. It was The Union that gave the survivors a shot at glory. It was The Union that kept the invading evils from charging through everyone and everything.

For months, Ares Menschlich - The Baron of War - claimed The Union was a fragile lie. A facade that hid the deep seeded selfish desires of each and every combatant. Kron fought to prove The Union meant something more -- and he succeeded. In death, Kron defended the purity of combat and the truth of the excellence fighters can achieve. The Union prays Kron will be "born again" as he has before, but there are those who hope he and everything he stands for remains buried.

The Union has been betrayed! Ares Menschlich was wrong to deny good within the League, but he was right to identify an underside of avarice, greed, conspiracy and contempt. They are Team Turncoat and they want everything the greatest competitors have achieved and much more. Led by Toryn, they absconded from the War of Thrones, intent on conspiring to launch their own. At the foot of the Tower of Power, they began their attempts to steal from The Union and The League.

Tyrant-Cenobite & queve were the first. Their machinations date as far back as April, when their poison of lies infected one of The Union's most beloved favourites - ElJobber. For a time, Toryn's aspirations were merely self-serving, but over time, his envy has grown. The poison has spread and The Union has lost another of its brightest stars.

The Union of The Human League is under attack. War is declared.

15. The_Purple_Bunny & Jade (c) d. m0s & Nemesis316 in a confident Championship defense.
It was a devastating realization at Tower of Power III, one that ripped through The League, and turned a favourite warrior into a vile fiend! m0s & Nemesis316 were cheered for their powerful performance as Tower 10 enforcers, but their personal decimation of Tyrant-Cenobite & queve was no reflection of their true intentions. These four men were secretly united in a single goal -- members of Team Turncoat!

A 5-1 powerplay in the Tower of Power had earned m0s & Nemesis316 an undeniable right to challenge for the Duo Division title. Their intent would be to take the titles and run. Standing in the way of Team Turncoat was one of the most dominant combinations in League history! As a solo competitor, Jade had enjoyed one of the fastest rises in history - obtaining her first title reign (with The_Purple_Bunny) in just one month! They were the perfect force to protect everything the gold stood for -- and protect they did!

It was a bitter display as m0s reminded why he had been viewed as an Undisputed Champion in the making! The Turncoat fought an impressive fight, raising the game of relative newcomer, Nemesis316! Under different circumstances, the titles may have changed hands, but The_Purple_Bunny & Jade once again showed a terrifying unity! They sent the Turncoats packing with a solid win, but by no means presented an unstoppable defense. Team Turncoat will live to fight another day -- we can only hope TPB & Jade will be ready to beat them again!

14. "The Iron Man" Ratt d. Jammer2Omega in a comprehensive +2 open challenge victory!
It was considered highly unusual for "The Iron Man" Ratt to be missing from a fight when the forces of darkness descended at Pre-Show 15! The Devil's Night had brought out the evils that lurk in the deepest shadows of The Great Arena -- but nobody knew at the time an even greater evil was hiding in plain sight! Ratt's absence had raised questions, but could anyone really consider the possibility that a fan-favourite as beloved as Ratt could turn on the people? The question hung in the air as he silently waited for an opponent to answer his tradmark open challenge.

The face of The Next Phase emerged to answer the hero under suspicion! Jammer2Omega had been a victim of a Bubble Rossi during the Devil's Night and would go a step further to accuse Ratt of being a Turncoat! Ratt's response was as decisive as it was damning. He launched an assault on the up-and-coming star, exploding in a way he never had before. Ratt was bitterly uncomprimising in his beat down of J2O, surprisingly kept to just a +2 impact -- a testament to the grit of Jammer2Omega!

Ratt left the colosseum with another comprehensive victory under his belt -- the kind of victory that only confounded a decision to throw back in the face of it all. Ratt had been one of The Union's greatest champions and an ally to Kron in times past. As a member of Team Turncoat, Ratt was betraying the memory of Kron and all he stood for! Ratt's turn will forever be a dark day for The Arena, as The Union counts him as enemy.

13. ElJobber d. FunGuyInTheVan in a comprehensive +7 beatdown!
As a known associate of Toryn, there was little mystery about FunGuyInTheVan's position in battle. FGITV had enjoyed a solid victory against Jax at Pre-Show 14, but could expect to be the lamb to the slaughter, called out to be a part of ElJobber's now trademark "MAX Damage Challenge." The boot camp of decimation had made ElJobber a villain in the eyes of some, but with the emergence of Team Turncoat and the revelation that ElJobber was framed for his infamous, unpopular attack at UGP had changed everything. Once; ElJobber was called the 'conscience of the league.' He would become this once more -- and the conscience was feeling guilty!

Given that the objective of the challenge is to inflict MAX Damage -- FunGuyInTheVan could probably count his blessings! The best ElJobber could muster in his comprehensive victory was a mere +7 -- the kind of decimation usually reserved for much better opponents! Maybe ElJobber just wasn't at the peak of his abilities, or maybe he's going to relish his revenge as a dish served cold. FunGuyInTheVan will return to Toryn battered and bruised -- a message for what ElJobber and The Union will do to anyone who joins Team Turncoat.

12. Ghostdragon d. DaMo in a hard fought battle.
Still reeling from an intense clash at Tower of Power III -- two of the late stage competitors reunite for a bitter one-on-one grudge bout! DaMo & DeathScepter were pipped at the post when they collided with Ghostdragon & Pink_Ranger -- the first Duo Division Champions and a power to be reckoned with at Supercard 15, themselves unsuccessful at the last moment! Both groups will no doubt be eager to get back in the hunt, but as Ghostdragon asserts himself individually, his solo aspirations and the credentials of DaMo present an opportune aftermath!

DaMo played the role of instigator well, unleashing an impressive offensive! It was exactly the kind of fight Ghostdragon needed -- the perfect follow-up to a disappointing defeat at Supercard 14: War of Thrones.

11. Pink_Ranger d. DECEPTION

4. plfx d. Shadaloo & Piccolo in a close fought three-way encounter!
It was at Pre-Show 14 that plfx showed an aptitude for the three-way battle. A contest requiring a particular talent for endurance and strategy, the three-way saw him best two other competitors associated with clandestine experiments within the walls of The Great Arena. Exactly what they are remains unknown, but it has been suggested Shadaloo and Piccolo aren't far removed from their consideration. Tangled in a web of intrigue, the trio would have to watch their backs and worry about more immediate maneuvers -- like those of each other!

If indeed this trio was considered for some sort of veiled experimentation, then their determination to win must have been a key factor. Remarkably well matched, the trio locked horns with little between them. Piccolo was narrowly removed by Shadaloo, only to have plfx steal victory at the last moment! Another fine example of the trials of three-man competition!

3. nface d. Killswitch in convincing fashion.
The man called nface had showed character in joining The League's best during the Devil's Night. A match with Killswitch would be the perfect follow-up to his successful defeat of a Skeleton Warrior, but would Killswitch be so willing to play ball? In The Great Arena, sometimes it's not about what you're willing to do -- but what you're forced to! nface looked impressive, fighting beyond his experience as he bowled over Killswitch in convincing fashion! Another great win for a competitor amassing a cult following for his victories!

2. lita83 d. Cherri in a hard fought Battle for the Bottom!
As the lowest two ranked fights in The League, you could be forgiven for expecting very little of an encounter between Cherri and lita83! The cruel conditions of almost a year of fighting had relegated the ladies to the bottom of the stack -- but such a predicament is perfect motivation for an all-out war to climb the ranks! Fighting tooth and nail, no one could deny the motivation of these overlooked fighters! The Battle for the Bottom may be a novelty for Pre-Show competition, but as lita83 scrapped her way to victory, fans could only acknowledge a well earned rite of passage.

1. jack4813 d. brandogg in a convincing +2 victory.
While The League faces the prospect of losing some of it's favourite sons to Team Turncoat -- the new faces of The Next Phase promise to fill the void! jack4813 has been impressing all the right people with his attack on the game! He showed character during the Devil's Night, joining the fight against the creatures of the night. He was defeated by a Giant Bat, but that wouldn't stop him taking on the talents of brandogg.

brandogg made his debut at Pre-Show 13: Highway to Hell, where he was no match for an old enemy called SmokeRulz! SmokeRulz had taken brandogg out for a +2 impact, and it looked as if it would be a tradition of two from two as jack4813 went to work! A convincing finish gives jack4813 a sense of momentum as he looks to turn enthusiasm into success. Will he get there? Only time will tell!
