Tournament 6: The Duo Championships

July 3, 2011 -- For six months fighters in The Great Arena have been reigned over by a single Undisputed Champion! The purity of combat has honed this individual through a careful process of manufactured, and natural selection. The claim of their honor can never be diminished, but when entire factions have been drawn into conflict for glory, there must come a time when teams will be recognised...

Supercard 3: The Long Hard Road ushered in a new era in competition, staging the first battle between teams of two. This original clash has given birth to an entire Duo Division, populated with unique combinations as intent on earning the respect and prestige as any individual. In the tradition of the great tournaments that have lit the path to greatness and Champions, Tournament 6 seeks to unveil a tandem worthy of being the first ever Duo Division Champions!

Sixteen teams have been entered into a random draw, capped by the fighting pairs that started it all -- Hokey & Ninja_Mime and Scott-Howell & Murdoink. Seeded top and bottom, they will attempt to fight through three rounds to meet again, this time with the opportunity to be recognised as Champions!

For the first time in competition history, there can only be two...!

Tournament 6: Duo Championship Final Match:
1. Pink_Ranger & Ghostdragon d. Hokey & Ninja_Mime
With the first-ever Duo Division Championship hanging in the balance, it was the kind of high calibre main event you would expect! Fighting at the very top level, these two well earned contending teams unleashed their best!

It was a meeting of the overwhelming favourites, Hokey & Ninja_Mime, against the prone under achievers, Pink_Ranger & Ghostdragon! Just as Hokey and Ninja_Mime had achieved success individually; Pink_Ranger recently joined the ranks of the unofficial solo best, fighting through Supercard 8 against rival, CaTigeReptile. The scenario was to have provided a breakaway from duo status, but here, led by her individual prowess, Pink_Ranger returned to Ghostdragon's side!

Against the majority of teams, Ninja_Mime & Hokey would have simply been too awesome, but their undefeated reputation appeared to have little meaning against a team with nothing to lose. Pink_Ranger & Ghostdragon stepped up to their potential, fighting at such a level where either team truly could have won, respectable in their margins. Never the less, history will forever respect Pink_Ranger & Ghostdragon as the first reigning Duo Division Champions in The Great Arena! An achievement neither Ninja_Mime, nor Hokey, are likely to begrudge them!

Tournament 6: Duo Championships Semi Finals:
1. Hokey & Ninja_Mime d. kororaa & DigbyRigby
Hokey & Ninja_Mime crushed the upset threats of kororaa & DigbyRigby, further confirming themselves as a duo in a league of their own! The undefeated tandem left DigbyRigby looking like a shrinking violet, his strength from previous rounds completely absent in the attempt at something spectacular. The Semi Final victory makes Hokey & Ninja_Mime seven-time duo winners with no losses, an expected eventuality heading in to the Final crowning bout for the first Duo Division Championship!

2. Pink_Ranger & Ghostdragon d. DeathScepter & DaMo
It was to be a hard fought Semi Final clash as Pink_Ranger & Ghostdragon made efforts to continue to deliver the 'underrated' status they've so often been labelled with. Bouncing off of the solo success of Pink_Ranger, they staged a blockbuster clash with dark horse contenders, DeathScepter & DaMo! Engaging at a high level, it was a close fought victory that served a somewhat surprising, but justified, second-team for the Championship final!

Tournament 6: Duo Championships Round 2:
1. Hokey & Ninja_Mime d. DECEPTION & Onryo in a solid win.
With rivals Scott-Howell & Murdoink eliminated early; Hokey & Ninja_Mime looked to be distant favourites as they bundled out their next biggest obstacle, the fast rising combination of DECEPTION & Onryo! The bout ended convincingly, providing a high calibre test with a conclusive result.

2. kororaa & DigbyRigby d. Bofh & Dolce in a +4 decimation.
Making their duo debut in T6, DigbyRigby provided the engine for his team-up with old ally, kororaa! Any perceivable experience advantage for Bofh & Dolce melted away in the presence of DigbyRigby's strength! Exacting their second +4 team impact of the tournament, DigbyRigby & kororaa appeared to be threatening upset potential in their decimation of the lower ranks!

3. Pink_Ranger & Ghostdragon d. Porygonix & xtactics in a comprehensive result.
It was to be an enticing clash as inner circle members of supposedly defunct Team Cr0w/Team Kron factions went head-to-head! Kron's apprentice team of Porygonix & xtactics had their first taste of success in Round 1, while the notoriously under achieving tandem of Pink_Ranger & Ghostdragon -- described individually by Cr0w as criminally 'underrated' -- picked up a second win in the same. Just as it had been at Supercard 6; it was Cr0w's favourites who performed on the night, unchallenged in their comprehensive win in the intriguing clash.

4. DeathScepter & DaMo d. Leroy & Mark in a comprehensive +2 result.
Having scored the win over affectionate favourites, Scott-Howell & Murdoink -- the dark horse combination of DeathScepter & DaMo continued a convincing march through the Second Round, unscathed by an overachieving performance by newcomers, Leroy & Mark. "D&D" have teased great things in the past and rightfully assume status from their First Round win.

Tournament 6: Duo Championships Round 1:
1. Hokey & Ninja_Mime d. Jerrod & MINION in a +2 decimation.
Entering Tournament 6 with the kind of expected favourite status that can only come with an impressive undefeated streak -- Hokey & Ninja_Mime were in fine form in the first stage. Jerrod & MINION were a mere formality for the heavy hitting contenders who were never in doubt.

2. DECEPTION & Onryo d. SubMan799 & Casselman
It was to be a harsh draw for rising tandem, SubMan799 & Casselman. Ever on the cusp of the next wave of competitors, they were given the daunting task of going up against the upstart duo of grappling pals, DECEPTION & Onryo! With the potential to go all the way, DECEPTION & Onryo answered the youngsters' challenge with confidence, affording their opponents a dignified exit that will no doubt demand a compelling rematch in the future!

3. Bofh & Dolce d. ZachAngel & Angelia in a close match!
It was by the narrowest of margins that ZachAngel & Angelia and Bofh & Dolce decided a winner, fighting to a near stand-still in an incredibly evenly matched bout! Bofh & Dolce ride back-to-back success after their Supercard 8 win in a ladies grudge match between Dolce and NovaStarr!

4. kororaa & DigbyRigby d. Liam & nif in a +4 decimation!
Newcomers, Liam & nif were treated to a one-way ticket to infamy in a First Round bout of surprising conclusion! There could be no question in anybody's mind who the better duo was as kororaa & DigbyRigby walked over the competition with a decimating +4 impact! Delivering the harshest result with the most powerful assault, kororaa & DigbyRigby make for a surprising debuting duo, the only team not previously announced ahead of the Championship Tournament!

5. Porygonix & xtactics d. NovaStarr & Poasty
Desperate for a win, the middling duo of Porygonix & xtactics finally found themselves with a team they could handle. Frequently thrust against the upper echelon, this time it was a one-sided affair on the flip, NovaStarr & Poasty with only one bout to their name. It was at Supercard 8 that NovaStarr enlisted the aid of old friend, Poasty, against arch-rival Dolce. Alas; as it had been at the Supercard, the relatively inexperiened pairing were outclassed.

6. Pink_Ranger & Ghostdragon d. Artanix & foahchon in a comprehensive +2 result.
Dubbed by reigning Undisputed Champion, Cr0w, as two of the most underrated fighters in The Great Arena -- Pink_Ranger & Ghostdragon had plenty to prove despite their unexpected triumph at the The Rapture & The Madness special event! Artanix & foahchon have fallen into the lower ranks since tasting success in the opening months of competition. While the sentimental vote might have wished to spur them on, Artanix & foahchon were completely outdone by a tandem that looked like they'd been winning for months! A 'better late than never' result for PR & GD!

7. Leroy & Mark d. rxvt & Politics in a narrow result.
The random draw proved kind to relative newcomers, Leroy & Mark! The fresh fighters were in for a legitimate scrap, well matched against rxvt & Politics, who underwent a little training at Pre-Show 8 against fellow fighting faithful competitors, ZachAngel & Angelia. Unfortunately, much like their sparring partners, they were left agape at the narrow margin of their close fought defeat.

8. DeathScepter & DaMo d. Scott-Howell & Murdoink in an upset!
There can be no denying that since the inception of the duo division, "Sugar" Scott-Howell & Murdoink have been singled out as the affectionate favourites of The Great Arena. Despite enjoying undefeated status since that first battle at Supercard 3 -- Hokey & Ninja_Mime were originally conceived as an impromptu, short term union. Instead, they have risen to be #1 to Howell & Murdoink's #2!

DeathScepter & DaMo have enjoyed a limited role in the duo division, but with a Supercard 7 win over the fan-favourite combination, it was a disappointing, but not entirely surprising elimination in the First Round. Just as it had been at Supercard 7, the bout was a top class encounter, but this time the fight got further out of reach for the affectionately referred "original team." The win gives DeathScepter & DaMo equal credibility moving forward, with a real chance to replace Howell & Murdoink in the Championship match against Hokey & Ninja_Mime!

Pink_Ranger & Ghostdragon might have finally achieved the success they have so often fallen short of, but the celebrations will be short! July 10 is Pre-Show 9: Destination Duo, where the first-ever Duo Division Champions will be forced to defend their titles in a main event just one week after winning!

Then, July 17, the first-ever Duo Division Champions will be among twelve lucky individuals who'll duke it out at Supercard 9: Royal Roulette in a Battle Royal to determine the next #1 Contender to the Undisputed Championship! Reigning champion, Cr0w, will have his work cut out for him if he wants to face the winner, confronted by a highly motivated ElJobber in a Supercard Championship defense!

Stay tuned for more details as action in The Great Arena heats up!
