It's a tradition that has been with the league since the very beginning! January begins a new year, a new season, and officially launches with the first Grand Slam Tournament of 2016!
The format remains the same: 128 fighters in a single elimination bracket. Differing from previous years is the decision to omit all Hall of Fame competitors from the randomly drawn field. That game changer means former tournament winners like: Ratt, Crow, Mimik and Duo Division Champions "Team Xtreme" Violent`J & Marz will not be competing! Also notably absent from the field is 2015 Grand Prix Warm-Up runner-up "The Hitman" DECEPTION -- who's still out of action since his Survivor Sequence Death Match with reigning Undisputed Champion: Hokey! Also on the inactive list are: NightHawk and JUST_A_TARKATAN.
In a late decision: Hokey has submitted to the tournament, becoming the #1 seed as both current Undisputed Champion and reigning Summer Grand Slam champion. At the opposite end, the 2015 Master's Series tournament winner: m0s! Seeding merely guarantees dominion over two halves of the tournament. Both will face serious threats early on - m0s drawing 2015 KFL arch-rival LordSkarlet in the first round! Hokey should get past Bronzie, but will face the winner of The_Purple_Bunny v SubScorpTile!
With these early eliminations and several high profile omissions, the field has opened up to a shortlist of remaining favourites: Damo, Genku, CaTigeReptile, ElJobber, TonyTheTiger and KFL Champion VenoMark -- who faces his long time friend and ally MKR in the first round!
