Project Punch-Out: Week 1

With the highs of Ultimate Grand Prix III fresh in mind, a new era begins!

The first week of Project Punch-Out promises a hard road ahead, but revealed plenty of potential from the young contender: little-mac! He entered the fray a little wiser than expected, having made a surprise UGPIII Battle Royal appearance the night before! He entered #7 in the random draw, only to be eliminated quickly by MKR in fifth sequence. It was an unceremonious defeat, but the perfect warm-up for his first shot at The Project Punch-Out Minor Circuit!

The opening stages presented little-mac with fair game, his first opponents approximate equals with only one match between them. The Greek rookie proXade took a hit in his debut match, before Thailand's Lays suffered similar fate, his second career loss. little-mac showed signs of improvement in all three bouts, but against EasterBunny he found himself outgunned!

With a career record of 7-21-1, EasterBunny is something of a Great Arena veteran!
His Grand Prix-Show Battle Royal appearance spilled over into an unlikely grudge match with Zmoke at UGPIII. It was EasterBunny's second UGP appearance - a record that is yet to garner success, but is still a measure of his tenure within the fighting ranks!

little-mac will get his shot at retribution when he returns with a career record of 2-3-0, next week! It promises to be an intriguing rematch when the Project Punch-Out kid takes on the furry furnace: little-mac v EasterBunny II - April 15th, 2013!

Project Punch-Out: little-mac vs The World!

After UGPIII, The Great Arena will play host to the ultimate test of a new chosen warrior!

Project Goldberg tested what would happen if a fighter were to acquire 99 consecutive league victories [via nface]. Project Zenkai brought the more experienced 99 opponents together again to measure the result of a more arduous, difficult path [via Piccolo]. While Piccolo and nface do battle in the ultimate clash at UGPIII - End of an Era: a new experiment will bring together the greatest warriors of the world in a special contest called: Project Punch-Out!

It will be the task of relatively untested challenger little-mac to battle his way through the international ranks in weekly exhibition bouts. As he accumulates victories and valuable experience, little-mac will earn his way toward the ultimate dream of an Undisputed Championship match!

Three circuits represent increasing difficulty to little-mac, comprised of statistically measured opponents from around the globe! Many of these "world warriors" will be recognized from the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, The Championship World Tour, and regular League competition!

Each battle will increase little-mac's strength and experience, driving him toward the next ranking opportunity! He begins his quest with a lone match to his name -- a 2012 First Round defeat dished out by Shaggy2Dope during Tournament 21: The Ultimate Grand Slam. As a relative clean slate, little-mac will reveal exactly what happens when a competitor is forced to overcome an evenly matched arch-rival, before advancing to new opponents.

Project Punch-Out Basic Rules

• Project Punch-Out takes place every Monday.
• A victory advances little-mac to the next rank in his circuit.
• A loss grants little-mac the right to a rematch the following week.
• Losing a rematch demotes little-mac to the previous opponent.
• By defeating the top rank, little-mac graduates to the next circuit.
• Three defeats will force little-mac to the lower circuit.

UGP: Genku - Runner-Up No More!

He prefers to be called "The Great" Genku, but as Season 2013 unfolded, greatness has regularly eluded him! With a reputation for losing at the last minute growing, The Great Arena has come to know Genku better as "The Constant Runner-Up" or "The Bridesmaid"!

2013 should've marked the return of Genku back to the top of the ranks, but instead, it has been one disappointment after another! In January, he fell short in the Grand Final of the annual opening tournament [T25: Year Three Begins] -- an event he has won every previous year! A stint as KFL Champion ended shortly following, cut short after only a two week reign!

The January near-misses continued with an A-league contender match at Pre-Show 32: Royal Meltdown. Genku played second fiddle to an emerging Lord m0s, but opportunity still knocked. The loss delivered him to the annual Battle Royale 2013 where he was runner-up yet again, last man eliminated as Ratt earned the guaranteed main event Undisputed Championship match at Ultimate Grand Prix!

At February's Supercard 33: The Long Hard Road; Genku reprised his role as a Battle Royal runner-up, narrowly missing victory in a six-man match set to have greater ramifications in April when Tower of Power VII rolls around! With the UGP Season entering the final leg, Genku finally stepped it up to claim that overdue tournament win! He bested the likes of  legendary former champions Kron and Crow, taking the T27: Grand Prix Warm-Up title!

No longer stuck on the verge of greatness: Genku promises to End the Era of his role as Runner-Up! He'll do it on the greatest stage of them all, against the man who earned himself the rank of #2 Contender - the self-proclaimed "True #1": The_Purple_Bunny!

Genku and TPB know each other well!
It was The_Purple_Bunny who took the Undipusted Championship from Genku during his only reign, way back in 2011. History played out again when The_Purple_Bunny claimed that KFL Championship from Genku, in a rematch of their 2012 Armageddon final! They clashed again in the first event of the year, in a three-way match with fellow Daruma 7 winner, Lord m0s -- and it was TPB who became the next contender in waiting by eliminating Genku last in the SC33 six-man!

As the Championship threatens to eliminate one of The Great Arena's longest serving contenders - it will be the End of an Era and the beginning of a new one as Genku and The_Purple_Bunny take their bitter feud to the top of the league!
